I saw a #1 .375 yesterday I kind of liked. Its an older one with the pink pad. I have 2 pink pad #1s now. One is a 7X57 #1A. (great rifle by the way) And the other is a#1 RSI in 30,06. I really like them both and this .375 Would be a great adidtion to my collection of #1s. However, The problem I think I would likly run into is recoil. I mean lets face it, the pink pad on those old rugers is not much softer than the wood its screwed too. I would not want to change out the pad and I don't want to ware some sort of padded vest when I shoot it. I posted before I want a .375 ,and i like this one, has anyone here shot such a rifle? mabye the heavy barrel absorbs the recoil more than I would expect it too. Or would I be more comfortable buying or more to the point shooting, a different rifle. Like say one of the new lighter RSMs ? Opinions please ...tj3006 freedom1st

I like No1's and I like the 375, I say buy it. If the recoil pad is too hard, have it replaced, just save the old one. DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY

....or, add a slip-on pad. If you can deal with the added lenght. Personally I would not worry about the factory "pad". Just put a good pad on it and with in your lenght of pull and enjoy it. I'm also a fan of both .375H&H's and No.1's. I do have to admit that the design of the stock is poor for handling recoil, at least for me. My #1 in .375 is by far the worst kicker of the half-dozen or so .375's that I've owned. A Sako and a Blaser R93, that seemed to weigh less than the No.1 (never actually weighed them) are both very comfortable to shoot. The No.1 tends to smack me in the chops. It is more noticeable when using the open sights than with a scope. By all means get it if you like it, but plan on putting a decent pad on it. Just hang onto the old one in case you sell the gun later. John

Like the others have said, put a better pad on it like the Decelerator or the Limbsaver, just don't cut the wood and save the old pad so you can simply reinstall it with two screws if you ever decide to sell the gun. I did this with my Ruger RSM 416 Rigby and it works fine. Tom Z NRA Life Member

Yes, the No. 1 in 375 H&H does recoil more than a .30/'06. But it is no worse than most .375 H&H rifles. Practice will accustom you to the backthrust. "Bitte, trinks du nicht das Wasser. Dahin haben die Kuhen gesheissen."

Just buy a used butt stock on Flea-Bay and do a real recoil-REDUCING, not accentuating pad. Rich Buff Killer

I agree; I had no problem shooting mine with a Pachmyer on it. Big difference from the rubber brick they come with. Rick DRSS

Go to the newer RSM. I like a No. 1 as well as the next guy but much prefer the RSM. If money no object buy both.

I think I am gonna pass on the #1 If any one wants it, PM and I'll steer you to it. If I am gonna buy a rifle to customize, And i might,do just that I will get a CZ and send it to AHR. I looked at a RSM today, man that is a alot of rifle for the money. It would have been a cool combination for a safari , to take my #1A in 7X57 as my light rifle and its scaled up cousin in .375 for my thumper. ...tj3006 freedom1st
