I did a search here and came up with some conversation when the rifle was announced, but has anyone had their sweaty little paws on one yet? For some reason this round has been at the top of my thoughts the last few days. It could be the stainless/laminate 45/70 I handled the other day (nice, but I already have a 45/70).

So haas anyone seen or shot one? Thanks, Sean

I've been told that they are concentrating on the 458 Lott as they would probably sell many more units in that caliber than the 405. Since the G&A article I've been chomping on the bit for a Ruger No. 1 and the TEDDY ROOSEVELT 1895 in 405. I guess if I kick the bucket tomorrow, only a couple of my guns go out because it is willed and the rest will be buried with me. [Big Grin] [Razz] [Razz] [Razz]

I've had a stainless .405 in #1 on order since April. A couple have been advertised on gun auction sites, but overall they've been pretty scarce. I had a similar experience back in 1995 with the No. 1 in .404 Jeffrey (I finally got one, but it took a while).

I was looking at some 405 ammo yesterday, and it looks like it has a lot of room for powder. How hot do people load these things? In a #1 it could be a major sholder thumper.

In my #1 with a 24" Douglas bbl, I can get @2,400fps with the Hornady 300gr bullets and 2,050fps with 400gr Barnes bullets. I'm still playing around with the rifle and learning what it likes and dislikes, I haven't had it long enough to have taken any game with it.

During a trip to Utah last month I picked up a box of Barnes 350gr bullets but havent' had time to do any load development.

Thanks Rick, now my mouth is really watering. I think I just need to see if my dealer can get one. You would think I would find away to get one straight from the plant (I can drive to the Newport, NH plant in just over an hour). Maybe I could bribe an employye or something [Big Grin] Sean
