The new Winchester catalog lists the .404 Jeff. as an option in the custom shop African model 70. Now if they can be persuaded to chamber the production grade Safari Express for it I'll be as happy as a pig in sh*t!

SCGunNut, I wouldn't race off to order one even from the Custom Shop. I talked to the Custom Shop manager at the SCI Convention last week, and they have not received their two prototype barrels yet. They also don't have a bottom metal solution yet, and in fact they didn't know they had a problem. I recommend you look at the .404 Dakota if you want a rifle in that bore size in any kind of timely fashion. jim dodd

Well, that's not good news, Jim. I've met Leslie, and she is one of the sharpest people in the gun industry. George

You could just have one built on a nice m98 action ?? maybe thats a better way to go and it would be done the way you wanted it done exactly ??

Paul, My suggestion is for a more or less production rifle versus a full-on custom build, or "one of" rifle. I thought that was what SC was looking for since he wanted to see this rifle in the Winchester production line. The first .404 Jeffery rifles were made in M98 actions, and it certainly can be done. jim
