Hoping to get some suggestions from forum members. I want to replace the bases & rings on a couple of Zastava M70s in 416 Rem and 458 Win. I will be using 30mm tubed scopes, and want something that is pretty robust, but is suited to the classic lines for an African DGR.

A 30mm-tubed scope will not be good for classic, African DGR lines, aesthetically speaking.
But if you must, 8x40 the screws and epoxy-glue the bases to withstand the mass of a 30mm scope.

The Leupold QRW system so done will work well
with many types of rings and scopes.

Same bases as above with 1" QRW rings:

Same bases used on Zastava Mauser work on FN Mausers:

Hi RIP

Thanks for your thoughts on this. I was kind of thinking down this line. I dont love the look, but its hard to beat for functionality.

I would be much more concerned about the scope than the mounts, most of today rings and bases combined with some glass bed and 8/40s work fine, but the guts in the scope have been the failures Ive had to deal with..In the bigger bores I might add beginning with the 458 Lott and up..I suggest the 2.5X Leupold compact, with the cross hairs under the adjustments. As to rings and bases, the claw mount is hard to beat, but Ive had real good luck with Talley QDs, Burris, and when properly installed the old cheap Weavers seem to work about as well as anything else, combined with leather cement in the rings, 8/40s in the bases and some torx screws in the rings with locttite or whatever..

Yeah, I have a 2.5 fixed Leupold on the rifle now. But I am going to swap it off because I dont like the duplex reticle. I thinking I will try a GPO low power variable on it. They have the no 4 German ret which I prefer, and eye relief is about the same as the Leupold.

What?
You care about aesthetics and functionality
yet would put a 30mm tube on a trim and sporty DGR?

Don't know if it is fesible but why not send the scope to Leupold and swap reticles. Local distributor or importer should be able to assist you.

Leupold 2 piece bases on my 458 WM Remington 798 and other Zastava's like my custom 416 RM carbine. 1" rings on mine. Rear base needs minor filing for proper fit. Rear base is windage-adjustable. Nice to have just in case.
