Anyone here have a double sxs rifle with a extra shotgun barrel? Doesnt the sxs rifles usally weigh more than the shotguns ?I would like a sidelock or boxlock in 577 nitro since i never heard of a belted caliber in sxs (577 t rex). With 10 gauge 3.5" chamber barrel set .I think searcyent could make this perhaps. I have heard stories of the 577 nitro great penetration and stopping power

i prefer guns without a cheek peice . And i was thinking of a weight of 15 lbs.what would be optimal barrel length for a 577 ? I was thinking along the lines of 23" and 30" for the shotgun or more .with this a 577 with a 750 grain bullet @ 2000 fps has a recoil 67 ft lbs i think . Which the heaviest recoil i ever had was about 90 ft lbs but i cant really tell the difference between 50 lbs and 90 lbs of recoil

Tk10ga most of the weight in a SxS double rifle is in the barrels, so your idea is a tried and true concept allready. i dont know if butch makes 10 gauges, but he sure has the skill to make you anything you want. i usually reccomend them with 12 gauge barrels, but that is because my actions dont readily accept 10 gauge barrels. the weight difference on mine is 14 pounds for the rifle, 8 pounds for the shotgun. the handling in the shotgun is not as nimble as a english game gun, it will be more in the lines of a live pigeon gun, which is still very good. a suggestion would be to ask people on the double rifle forum. best regards peter

I was pondering the same question, so I posted on the DR forum. Already have some good answers. I am getting a 470 NE and there is a supplemental 12 Ga SG set available for about $4000.
