Talked to the kind people at McMillan fiberglass stocks today. Their stocks made for heavy recoiling rifles do not require stock crossbolts or a barrel mounted recoil lug. They can make the stock to use these devices, but the stocks do not require them. They do recommend glass bedding the action and free-floating the barrel. Have a couple of their stocks on some decent kickers -- one 460 Wby and one 500 A-Square. They haven't failed yet. Past performance is no guarantee of future performance, as the stock analyst say. Hammer, I have a McMillian on a 404, it is glass bedded but no added recoil lug or cross bolts. So far so good. BigB

I've got a MacMillan on my CZ 550 in 416 Rigby and so far (less than 200 rounds) it's holding up just fine. No vertical stringing, no shift in zero and I don't care if it gets nicked, scratched, dirty, or pissed on. I did develop a hairline crack on the painted finish right at the tang but you need to look really close to see it. _________________________________ AR, where the hopeless, hysterical hypochondriacs of history become the nattering nabobs of negativisim.
