Schauckis.416 Rem Mag velocities?
I had a discussion yesterday with my friend about various guns & calibers, and I claimed that the velocity of his .416 RM is in the same ballpark as that of a 9,3x62, i.e. ca. 2400fps.
He maintained that it's a lot higher - I cannot recollect the exact figure he quoted but it must have been 2650+.
Now, being curious I checked the details of the ammo he uses (Federal), and indeed Federal claims 2400fps no more.
However, his lot of ammo is older and I started to wonder if it may be from the time before Remington reduced the pressure.
Can anyone enlighten me if the velocity used to be higher, and if so, how high was it?
The bullets he uses are 400grs Trophy Bonded Bear Claw and 400grs Sledgehammer Solid.
Also he has some X bullets (400grs), I believe, of the older type.

WillNominal 416 Rem. velocity with a 400 gr. bullet is 2400 fps.

MLGI hate to think what the recoil would have been like at 2600+ fps!
My 416 is pretty much "flat chat" round 2470 fps and starts to show signs of pressure.
With my handloads I settled for 2350-2400 fps and thats where I think the 416Rem Mag is reliable...

jeffeosso2400FPS, about 62,500 PSI...
factory loads, only the 416 weatherby goes that 2650+ in

phurley5My Model 70 Winchester Safari Classic shoots a 370 grain North Fork 2460 fps with 80 grains of RL-15 and a Fed 215M primer. This is my most accurate load and it puts the North Fork solids within 1/2 inch of the same hole. Good shooting.

I just can't understand your comparison
They don't make a 400g projectile for the 9.3 so your comparing what ?????? the velocity of a 286g projectile to that of a 400g projectile, that just doesn't make sense it's Like comparing the 22-250 to the 270
And you definately can't be comparing the case sizes, I mean the 9.3 x 62 is basically a 30-06 case, infact you can use the O6 case in a pinch and you seem to be comparing it to a 2.8 inch improved 375 H&H magnum case
Sorry buy you have lost me

jro45My 416 Rem Velocities are 2420,2425,2410. With no pressure signs. I wouldn't take my 416 up to 2600 FPS I know I would have pressure signs at that Velocities. These velocities are with a 400gr bullet.

AtkinsonYou can't compare a 9.3 to a .416, its just not done! The .416 outclasses in every way even though I can get 2550 FPS with a 286 Nosler in a 9.3x62 but thats with a 286 gr. bullet as opposed to a 400 gr. bullet in the 416 and with a 350 gr. bullet the 416 Rem leaves the 9.3 in the dust at 2700 FPS, and it will shoot as flat as the 30-06 with a 180 gr. bullet.
