If it is the same as their .300 Win Mag, it has a unique recoil reduction system that is built into the bolt. Being able to fire those kind of rounds in rapid succession, you have to wonder about barrel life. But, if you can afford that sort of rifle, that is the least of your worries.

Well ... a Nemo Omen Watchman in .300 Win Mag is about $6,500.00. I would imagine the .458 will be more. Could it even be imported into RSA?

It's cool from a novelty perspective, but at 12.4lbs., it's too heavy to hump over hill and dale, although it would be fine for put-and-take hunts.

George: I think it would be the nuts for following a wounded leopard, and especially for a classic Texas swine jihad night hunt!

Cool

Several years ago one of the well known gun writters had a .338 Win Mag Browning BAR rebarreled/converted to .458 Win Mag. His article and the photos were very interesting. I thought it was a great idea. I haven't heard of anyone else doing such a conversion.

Noreen offers big ARs in calibers that include .338 Lapua, a 3.68" long cartridge. Since the Lapua cartridge is based on the .416 Rigby, perhaps that would be doable. And, if a bolt from one of their .300 magnums could be used with the .338 Lapua bolt carrier, maybe they could build an AR for H&H magnum based cartridges. I'd consider buying an AR in .375 H&H.

Trouble is, how do you/I get it into the countries where it would most useful? This must be what being all dressed up with no place to go feels like. Frowner

There was a guy up here in Canada that did some BAR conversions. Can't remember his name.

I think the Nemo guys are in upstate Montana. I'm sure if you wiggle enough money under their noses, they could be tempted.

Ed, if you can get .458 performance at shotgun pressures, my hat is off to you!

We already did with 12ga FH at mag shotshell pressures of 14700 psi.. .

In the 24ga FH not exactly the low shotgun plastic case
pressures, but we load a brass case we make
from 577NE brass to low rifle pressures like the 577NE
factory cases are loaded. 30-35,000 psi.Ed
