This may have been covered in this forum already so forgive me if it has.

I have been shopping around the internet for a DG rifle and have seen some Whitworth and Churchill rifles that seem to look somewhat similar. The Churchill's look almost like an upgrade of the Whitworth.

Is there any relationship there? Is there a good book that covers these "English Mausers"? Or maybe a web site that covers them?

Is there a relationship between the Churchill mausers to the EJ Churchill company or is that a different company altogether?

What's the scoop on these guns and is there a place where I can learn about them?

Thanks.

Todd

As far as I know these rifles are built on Zastava (Mark X) or Santa Barbara actions, I am not sure which ones, but six of one half a dozen of the other.(still good FN clones!). Add the Parker Hale 'Safari' (or was it 'African'?) to this list (it alos came in 9.3x62)

Either way,I have shot a Whitworth .375, they are functional, no-frills working rifles and will get the job done. If you wan a serious DGR, then get a good smith to check feeding etc. Nothing wrong with them otherwise!

Thanks for the info. So do you think the Churchill and Whitworth rifles are related? Or is it 2 companies building rifles on Zastava actions?

Only Churchill I know of is:

These are far from a Mark X clone.

Whitworth has been around since the 1800s building cannon, rifles etc. Problem most of us have is we think of only the 1970-2000 years when they made some rifles made on the Mark X action. Some were put together in England. Many just carried the name and were put together elsewhere.

As far as I know the "Whitworths" were made using the MKX action the Paker Hale the Santa Barbara action.

But believe me when I say I have been wrong before.

As usual just my $.02

Yep I would call it a VERY upgraded Whitworth. Their site just says Mauser Action. That trigger is not a standard MKX. But that doesn't mean much. That rifle and the Interarms Whitworths that are floating around would be comparing a Chevy and Linc.

bobc has about the best looking "Whitworth" I've seen:
