Update ! Winchester M70 big bores coming this fall?
I am ready to Vote. Can anyone who knows what can a factory mod 70 be easily chambered for. Confused

I'm in for a 404. Maybe 375 H&H for newby's no on the 416 rem ok for the 458 Lott or 470 Capstick. What am I missing? I believe its too small for Rigby's or Weatherby's?

Thanks Brad

I called the 800 # this morning hit 3 and then 1. Some guy came on the line, I told him I would like to see 375 H&H, 416 Rem and 458 lott. I also suggested a 338 win mag. He said they were just trying to re-establish the Model 70 right now and it would be a few years down the road for bigger calibers.

I also got the opinion he could care less about my call.

Since this posted on AR, their call load had probably quadrupled!

We have two pretty big shops here in Jacksonville and one of them with an extensive Big Game clientele and I've yet to see even a SINGLE Model 70 in ANY caliber. don't know where they are going, but not here. jorge

Does make you wonder though;

1 Belted-300WinMag,
3 WSM's-325WSM,300WSM,270WSM,
6 Standards-06,270,308,7-08,243,22-50

So,only 10 calibers spread over 6 variations, seemingly they want to push the WSM's before the "biggies".

wonder if a "Big" WSM is next for the standard length action.?

I put my vote in for these, only they are on WSM actions!

We have a Model 70 Featherweight Deluxe and Extreme Weathers in .270 and .30-06 at the shop where I work. Nothing exotic yet, but the rifles seem well made.

I've been waiting on a standard sporter in 30-06, or maybe a supergrade. Anyone seen any of these? I've only seen featherwieghts.

In a WSM action, they could sell a .423 WSM that would duplicate or best classic .404 Jeffery ballistics???

Our local Cabelas just got in two Supergrade model 70's and I just have to say I was quite disappointed. I seen better wood on many Ruger M77's. The wood was plain as can be. What are they thinking? These rifles should have pretty nice wood on them if they are going to be a "Supergrade". BTW, I just picked up a new Safari Classic in 458 Winchester to go with the other one I have in 375 H&H. Cost...less than the "new" deluxe featherweights. There are some deals out there right now. Anyone waiting for DGR's to come out of the new company better put on their "waiting" hat...its gonna be awhile.

Winchester is owned by Browning. However, I don't know how they handle the marketing or if one sales force sells both product lines. Inventory costs are traumatic for small dealers. They avoid tying up large sums of money in slow moving inventory. They would rather have a bunch of 30:06's, 7mm Rem Mags and 300 mags (short or long) than tie up dollars in a .458 Lott. I have seen almost no new Win Model 70's in St. Louis. Ruger must have a better "floor plan" program as I see a lot of Rugers at Cabelas, Bass Pro and some independents. For this new rifle to be a success they are going to have to get product on the store shelves coupled with attractive pricing and lots of gun writers hailing these rifles as the only thing out there capable of whacking the charging whitetail. I want very badly to see these new Model 70's in large bore calibers but I have a feeling the bean counters are going to call the shots and they will go where the most sales will be. Bummer!

Thanks! That is just a few of the Winchesters. Want to look at some more go find the B&M post lot's of photos of Winchesters on there too.

Of course I don't think Win will pick any of them up! Right now I doubt they have the expertise to do much in big bores that is out of norm. If and when they get to it I am sure it will be the same old standard stuff.

I would not hold my breath waiting on the left hand big bores any time soon!

Thanks Rod

Ya that 1st one (SS/wood) is the coolest IMO.

I wont hold my breath on Winchester, and I havent for quite a while. I dont like plain vanilla, thats why I've had several customs made in the last few yrs.

Yep, I like stainless and wood too! The one you are looking at is a 50 B&M--.500 caliber 510 gr Solids at 2100 fps.

Damn nice bear in your photo! I hope that's a Winchester in your hands???

Below another stainless/wood 500 MDM. .500 caliber 550 gr solids at 2200 fps

Well, I tried the # sevens posted, I got some guy who, when I said the words "big bore" automatically assumed I was referring to the Model 94 Big Bore. It took forever to get through to him that I was in fact talking about the Model 70. This clown says they have no plan to make a Model 70 in 375 up for 3-5 years, and no "survey" was being done. I gave him my vote anyway, 375H&H, 404 Jeffery, 458 Lott. I made some comment about the Short mags being the only things available, he let me know in no uncertain terms that these were the best sellers, and re-orders from stores were strong.

NOW DON"T SHOOT THE MESSENGER, I am just relaying my conversation.
