I got thse 3 Remington actions today. Two Model 30-s and one Model 30. Just bare actions, but I got a good deal I think. Nice shape,no rust or pitting, still have most of there blueing.I just got back issues of the ACGG magazines with Mr. Wisner's articles on modifying these for 416 Rigby and 505 Gibbs. It will be a while before I can get to these, so for now I'll keep researching. I've already found a wealth of info on this board, thanks to all the contributors who make this place great. Any suggestions on how I should do these up? Like to hear what you guys think. Systeme98, any suggestions, you seem to be Mr. Enfield! I'd appreciate suggestions on a pre-inletted and shaped stock. I'm aware of Great American And Richards Microfit, heard good and bad about both. Anywhere else to get a good pre inlet in an appropriate style? I know Todd Getzen had pics of one he was doing, I wonder what tonto is using on his projects? Anyway, thanks for looking at my latest find and listening to me rant.

Apparantly these actions are not for sale, but I think I have an old Rem Mod 30 in 30-06 that I picked up to build a 505 Gibbs on and never got around to it that I would sell...Its a shooter, but the action has no pits, its clean and would make a neat big bore...Hope I can find it.

I found it, but its a 1917 Enfield made and marked by Remington arms...I have it listed in Classified.

Make me an offer, but only if the above actions are not for sale..

I have no clue how to price this one so am open to offers.

Those look very nice! I will PM you with some additional info for Enfield projects. Are they complete actions, or receivers only?

My project was a 458 Lott, which was most of the way to completion, but I had too much going on and no time to finish it. So, it was miraculously transformed into an 8x57 Husky and an 8x57 German guild rifle. If you order the long Enfield mag box from Numrich, it comes with instructions for opening the rails and the REAR of the feeding port to allow 3.65" cartridges. They also sell a decent cock on opening conversion.

I'd replace the bolt handle for a big bore; try to retain the bolt locking feature (not hard to do if the 'smith is competent). A standard Talley handle looks goofy, at least mine did - the knob is too small for that giant action. Jim Wisner used to list a large diameter knob handle on his PME website, for Enfields. Perhaps he still makes them, or your smith could scale up a Talley. I think the knob diameter was .875" Make sure the smith is familiar with rebarrelling Enfields - I'm no machinist, but I understand the lug setup on these actions can make them difficult to headspace properly, and they don't quite have all of the gas-handling (or rather, diverting) features of a Mauser.

And before you replace a factory trigger, play around with it. A two stage trigger isn't necessarily a bad thing, and Enfield triggers can be honed down to a decent pull.

Good luck,
Todd

I should add I did get the rifle stocked and the stock mostly shaped. I used a Griffin and Howe open sight classic from Great American, and told Henry I wanted a straight grained piece of English with absolutely no voids or defects, or it was going back, and that is what I got. The G&H pattern shouldered well, and the stock was beefy as you would want for a big kicker in a big action.

Here's a pic:

Sorry guys, these aren't for sale. Took to long to find one! They are just the bare actions, so I'll need to round up all the other parts. If ya got any Remington parts let me know.I got them from Gun Parts Corporation for a good price, wish I'd found them sooner. What 3 calibers would you guys go with?

Robgunbuilder I'd be interested in those parts if ya want to email me a price, and I'm all ears to any advice you have on doing these. I've seen some of your work here and it never fails to make me drool.

Todd Getzen, I like the look of that stock, how deep of a mag box did you use? Did you like the British Express pattern from them better? Wonder if they'd leave extra wood in the mag box area if I asked? I'm thinking I"ll just make a mag box according to an article by Jim Wisner. My Bridgeport will be up and running by the time I'm ready to start these. Tooling and getting my shop set up has to happen before any money goes into these,so it will be awhile. Maybe I'll get really ambitious and try to make the bottom metal for it too. I'd be money ahead doing the quarter rib, bottom metal and scope mounts myself. Might take me a few tries though! I can turn a new bolt handle on the lathe, till I find the size that looks right. Maybe I'll mount one of my H&H peep sights on one if I ever get them done!

Thanks for the feedback guys, keep the suggestions coming! I've been saving every P17 article or picture I see on the board, lots of good info, but I'm always looking for more.
