I doubt if it is the same one as I have had this for 15 years. It's a Thys.

Yea, I am a recoil pussy. When it gets over 150 lbs of recoil I get real wimpy.

Mickey,

I honestly did not think it was; however, when you stated the weight, and not knowing if you recently acquired it, I had to ask. I haven't seen many 577 NE 3" doubles that have been so light.

Good luck with your recoil taming exercise.

I think there is also a lead recoil reducer.

Mickey, there is a world of difference between mercury recoil reducers and lead. The way a mercury reducer works is to have movable liquid mercury in a tube in the stock generally parallel to the bore. As the rifle moves back during recoil, the mercury will stay in place (due to intertia) until it bottoms out at the end of the tube farthest from the body. Then the moving end of the tube hits the stationary merucy and acts as a force in the opposite direction of the rifle's recoil. The net effect compared to mere lead in the gunstock is to slow the rifle down. Recoil is not nearly so sharp when there is a mercury tube in the stock. For really big bores, consider one in the stock and one in the forearm, or 2 in the stock.

However, I would not put mercury or lead into a vintage double because of the impact it would have on the rifle's value.
