I want to reload for 450#2 N.E. Iwould like to use a 500gr. round nose bullet, and reach about 2190fps. Any recomendations?

I would start with 86 gr [to be safe] of RL 15.
Fed Mag 215 primers. You must use a filler, it must be compressed.

I use 88gr of RL 15 with 480 and 500gr bullets, with my double.

I have used IMR 3031 and IMR 4831 as well. I like Rl 15 the best.

With the 450 No2 and the 475 No2 you must use a filler with any powder IMHO.

I agree on the RL 15. My 25" British double regulates best with Woodleigh 480 gr. bullet and 89 gr RL 15 yielding 2090 instrument velocity. That being said, of course different doubles will like different loads. Good luck.

No thoughts as to powder charge, as I have no experience (but sometimes that doesn't stop me). But as to the bullet: give A-Square Dead Tough a try (if you desire a solid, their Monolithic).

Maybe someday I will get to use the phrase: "My Jeffrey 450 #2...". One can only hope.

I'd be carefull of that one unless your rifle only has one barrel.

Tony: What are you using for filler these days? I keep hearing shifting theories about the safety of various fillers.

Kynock uses these kinds of wads in their ammo.

I currently make my own wads that use the same type foam.

I have used Dacron Polyfil.

Nothing wrong with either filler. The wads just make it less tedious for me.

I believe that the concern about fillers had to do with BPE loads in BP rifles and did not have anything to do with Nitro Proofed rifles.

I think I have the text of that article somwhere on my computer?

Aah, no need for text! Here is a link to a copy of the article posted by RIP. The article dealt with the reloading of the 500BP.
Filler thread. Article is posted near the top of the thread!
