I use Predator Pro Ears 300. Excellent product (made in Denver), blocks muzzle blast and allows normal conversation. You can turn it up a bit and the gravel crunching underfoot is VERY loud.

I'd be interested in what some of the members use as hearing protection. I've looked at some of the digital in the ear units and they are pricey. Any better options?

Quote: At the range, I use Peltor Tac7s, sometimes in conjunction with custom molded earplugs.
In the field, I only use hearing protection when shooting varmints, never on big game hunts.

I am wanting something to wear in the field as my 340 mag has a muzzle brake which I will leave on it. As I understand it, the Walkers Game Ear II will reduce the muzzle blast sound and I will be able to hear other sounds better. Am I correct? Since there is only one game ear what should I do to protect the other ear?
I bought one this year for my deafest ear to try and restore stereo hearing and the ability to locate sound direction. It, the Game Ear II, works fine for that but when I end up turning it up to be able to hear gnats fart I lose some stereo hearing and am back looking around for the noise, two would definitely be better. I ended up having a cast made of my ear by a hearing aid shop to replace the foam plug that comes with the unit, another expense but well worth it, locks the unit in place and doesn't work its way out after a few hours. The unit is light and unobtrusive, much better than a pair of muffs I have. I'll buy another for the other ear for next year. Oh yeah, the sound blocking feature works very well, I shoot a 338 Win Mag with a brake as well as several magnum revolvers and have no complaints.
