docarswhol...OWWW! that's got to hurt!

Do you realize a rapier-like repartee like that causes some of us to snort up or blow coffee out of our nose and onto the monitor and keyboard? Every now and then somebody here flings a bolt out of the blue like that and it takes me an hour to clean the computer area...which is about how long it takes 120+degree black coffee to stop blowtorching my nasal passages!

Man, I wish I'd thought that one up!

Just to throw another thought in there. The 375 would be kind of duplicating the 9.3 double, and the 458 Lott would match the 470.

404 kind of sort of resembles the 416.

If in your shoes I'd go with either the 375 or 458 to have similar choices in bolt-vs-double. Tie breaker would be whether I planned to do more exclusive DG hunts (458), or DG with PG side-dishes (375).

PS this comes from someone who has an advanced degree from A&M, but my heart is still with Rice U.

Yeah, I know. Not too witty, but we have to bare in mind that the other fella started it. And, he started it for no reason. I'm guessing he's either a vet or he's a proctologist... Thus, the Docarshol

Cable68- Does Major still coach the football team down there? I'm actually going to the Rice UT game this weekend.

I know that I can load pretty much anything I have to anything I'm looking for, but my plan is too sell most of my squirrrel guns and replace them with one good big bore. I've recently gotten to the point that I really only give the big kids any attention, so why keep the pee shooters around? The 404 is attractive for nostalgac reasons, and I like the Lott because it can be loaded up hotter than the 470. It is also a versatile gun that can shoot 458 winnies and be down-loaded to shoot like a heavy 45/70.

With that collection you have, I think a 375 definately belongs in there as well. H&H for nostalgic purposes and then later ream it to Weatherby for a little extra horsepower.

Had to google Applewhite, apparently he's now Saban's QB coach at Bama.

Realized that after I posted. He was, as I'm sure you know from your googling, Rice's head coach for a couple years. Before that he was somewhat of a football icon at UT (i.e. he never lost to OU). I guess he's moving up if he's with Saben.

Actually he was QB coach, not head coach. Todd Graham was head coach, but Tulsa stole him away.

And didn't need to Google that. Wink

Yeah, you're right he wasn't head coach, but I thought he was offensive coordinator for rice and now QB coach fro Bama... may be wrong.

Anyways, decided on a mod 70 375 H&H I bought from Showbart. Can't wait to try it. Here is a pick of it and some other; 470 merkel, 416 remy custom shop, new mod. 70 375, and ruger 338 win mag. Click on pick for a better look. Thanks for all the input fellas.

Cable68- I'd love to talk trash about beating up on Rice, but I just got back from getting our tails handed to us by K state at home...what do I have to look forward to the rest of the fall if I don't have college football?...just ruined my whole season. Oh yeah, shooting those suckers in that pick above and maybe a decent quail crop.

Well, I don't know that I should be stepping in between a T-sip, and someone who needs to remember the behavior expected of an Aggie...

Personally, I think you should convert a horse mauser to 375 Ruger, to prevent me from needing to do it...

That, or a hammered, under-lever 8 bore -- both of which you should sell to me at a highly discounted rate, once you're bored of them Big Grin

I'm waiting to see how that sucker (375 Ruger) does in the market before I invest any thought or money into a new or another 375. Now that I say that, don't know that I'd need one with the ole H&H. Like the sound of that 8 bore though. Just don't like shootin stuff that I couldn't hit the broadside of a lassie dog with from a hundred out. All smiles on that last remark. I would of used an emmoticon if'n I knew how. Wrong forum for stirrin up that pot.

Aglifter, looks like we'll have us a real sh#t show down in college station this year. Two incredibly talented squads with a couple of gubers at the reins that can't tell their heads from their arses. Might go watch Westlake high school play instead. Last time I was at Kyle Field, I had an 85 year-old "lady" throw a beer in my face b/c my shirt was the wrong color. I've hence learned my lesson; next time I go down there, Ima gunna take my 470 with me. At least the Cowboys are still worth defending in an arguemnet.

I'm sorry that you had things thrown at you, sometimes people forget the behavior required of an Aggie, even toward those who come from the school that represents all that is Evil... clap Of course, if she was an 85-year old lady, the odds are quite small that she was actually an Aggie (prior to 67 only daughters of profs, or wives of cadets could attend.)

I think you'll be happy with the 375; I've been very satisfied with mine although all I've killed with it so far is paper.
