A old unfired prewarning 1-s 45/70 came to my house today! At this time i plan to mount a NEGC peep sight and the factory bead on the front is to small for my eyes. What is better replacement blade? Thanks Clint

I like the NECG post front sight, can be filed to proper height if necessary

williams firesight is good for deep woods use.

Clint: You sure have wonderful house guests! What bullets are you going to run, and what game are you going to hunt? The .45-70 in a Ruger is wonderfully flexible.

the main targets are DWJ with a whitetail or two in the mix. will be shooting a mix of cast boolits from 330-475grs. As for house guest the one the night before took my 220swift home so I guess it works out. Yes the 45/70 is a lot of fun mild to wild and if you need more go to the 458AccRel. Got the peep in the mail today and mounted.(Thanks harms) Now to get a new front insert am thinking of a blade or maybe a fiber dot. Clint

NECG offers replacement FSs for the Rugers in a variety of bead designs. IME the base requires only a bit of filing/grinding of the sides to fit snugly in the factory slot. Cutting the front of the base of the bead (easily done with a MotoTool cut-off wheel) and cold bluing the surface finishes the job.

I've found the white bead that duplicates the Ruger Hawkeye 375s FS to be easily visible and very quick to pick up, if you have the right rear sight. Considering an NECG peep that attaches to the integral rear ring base may work for you.

I have one of these, stainless, lam. stock, "Tropical" -- put a Leupold VX3 1.75 X 6x 32mm heavy duplex on it. For Roosevelt Elk in dense cover.
