So is someone able to tell me about the 11.2 Schuler round? I have come across one and I would like a little more info on its desirability.
I have done a search and found some info posted by Alf. Does anyone else have info?
Thank you,
Frank

Hey Frank,

Kreighoff chambering, 1920's vintage, Kreighoff-Schuler rifles exported to US in 20's and 30's.

Rebated (non belted) rim to fit standard Mauser bolt face, but rifles were built on mag length actions with 4 round magazines.

About equal to 458 Win or 470 NE in terms of muzzle energy.

Sometimes confused with the 11.2x60.

Factory load 400gr bullet @ 2430 fps and ME 5300 ft lbs (Cartridges of the World, 4th ed.)

You need to discuss this with boha or husky, they know quite a lot about Schülers. As for desirability my estimate is that it is quite interesting... Eeker

Thankss for the information. Is anyone aware of any books, articles or sites where more history or specs about the individual rifles might be found?

Craigster, have you by chance seen this rifle? It is there in your hometown.

Frank, if I recall correctly in an old issue of Handloader magazine the cartridge and rifles were discussed in depth. There is also a reference from Ken Waters in Rifle some years ago. Good luck in your search.

Frank,
The March 98 issue of "Rifle" had an article on the 12.7 Schuler that mentions the 11.2 extensively by Gil Sengel. If you can't find it I can snail-mail you a copy.

Thanks for the added information. I know I have the rifle magazine somewhere as well as Handloader so I just need to start digging.
If there is anyone who owns or has shot one I would love to hear from you?

Frank,
I have a friend that owns one pictured in the Hatari Times article a few years back. I'll see if I can get him to post comments here. Very nice shooting rifle.

Frank M,
There where two versions of the 11,2x72 Schüler, Rimless and Flanged.

I have only seen one rifle chambered for the Flanged version -a Schüler-Herkules double rifle. The rimless version is more common.
An original Schüler 11,2x72 in very nice condition was sold at an gun auction here in Stockholm last year for $ 2000 (see photo)

Concerning the 11,2x72R, it was also chambered in drillings and according to Mr H Wolf a Burgsmüller drilling in poor condition was sold in Belgium gun shop some 5 years ago for pocket money. With the gun some 20 original cartridges was sold. Those 20 cartridges are the only known original factory cartridges that exist in the world today! They are worth about $600 each!

The 401 grain bullet is considered as being on the light side -bad SD, and Ken Stewart of Pietersburg, South Africa makes heavier bonded bullets for the calibre.

Cheers
Husky

Cartridges of the World should have some info including a brief history and at least factory loading data.

Thanks again. I am wondering about the rimless. It seems to be rebated some to fit the bolt face. I have one of the cartridges and I was wondering about extraction and reloading.

Frank,
Here's some more info from my friend Paul who owns one (11.2 rebated) pictured in the Hatari Times article:
Here's the info on the 11.2x72 Schuler:

Gordon Sitton's article, "11.2x72 Schuler", is in Rifle #144, Nov-Dec 1992, p. 27.

Harald Wolfe's article, "Deep Voice Gun", is in Hatari Times International No. 7, p. 14. The photo of my Jansen-Schuler is on p. 20. Harold explains quite thoroughly how Jansen became the exporter of Schulers to the Belgian Congo.

Pfeifer, thanks so much. That makes it easy to find the article.
Did you ever use your rifle in Africa? The person I am talking with used it quite a bit and apparently it was a real thunderstick.
I appreciate your efforts.

Frank,
This rifle belongs to my friend Paul (I'm more the middleman relaying information). I have shot it before and it is real nice to shoot for the size hole in the barrel. A really beautiful rifle as you'll see from the Hatari Times article photo. Paul forwarded the info to me for posting here.

Let us know how it all works out.
Regards,
Jeff Pfeifer

Thanks for the info. I was able to check on the rpoof marks this week. It has both German and English proofs on it. I believe it went from Germany to Birmingham before making its way to Zimbabwe where it was purchased before coming to America. There are numerous other proofs that didn't show up in the refernce book I was using. I was able to work the action some with available ammo and it is indeed very slick. The barrel carries a full rib and sights with one folding leaf.
I could not believe how well it fit me as I pulled it up into position. The front bead felt like it was welded to the rear leaf. Very fine rifle.
I am going to be talking with the owner some this week to discuss the asking price.
