I have some questions. I am just getting back into reloading again for my guide gun. I have a buddy that has a safari grade win. mod. 70 .458 win. mag. The only thing he has shot thru it are the 510 gr. soft pts. factory load. He wants me to help him find a reduced load to shoot in it. I was wondering about the 350 gr. hornady inter lock round nose loaded to say 1800-1900fps. Have any of you loaded for it , used this bullet, or could suggest a good powder to start with? Thanks. Mad Dog I have used that bullet in the 45-70, and a 458 loaded at that velocity. I also use it quite a bit in my 450 No2 double rifle at a little over 2300fps [that is the velocity it "regulates at"]. I have shot several deer and pigs with it. I would not hisitate to use it on elk or black bear. It is a very good bullet.

I use to shoot it quite a bit in my 77 Ruger. It was a real one-holer with 3 shot groups at 100 yards going .657 inch. My load is Remington brass, Federal 215 primers, Hornady 350 gr. RN, and 74.3 gr. of IMR 3031. Velocity should be around 2350 but it has never been chronoed as I have not loaded up this combination in almost 15 years, which was before I got my PACT, about 12 years ago. I don't know where this load stands on the "hot" scale so get a current manual and check on it before loading.

Mad Dog Not the 350 grain Hornady but another alternative reduced load which I have used in three different M70 458s, the push feeds with the 22 inch barrels. 400 grain Speer flat nose with either 70 grains of 3031 or 70 grains of 4064. Velocities were right at 2100 and 2000. Accuracy was superb as it also was with 70 grains of Varget. These are mild loads and the same powder charge of 3031 does 2000 when the 500 grain Hornady is used. Mike

I know Loud-n-boomer has used these as a light load for his .458 Lott, maybe he will respond with some info. By the way, I watched him make multiple shots on ground squirrels using this bullet in his .458 Lott with a fixed power 2.5x Leupold scope. One of the shots was measured at over 200 yards and he used an old fallen log as a rest. Both Dave and his rifle can shoot! Tim
