Rim diameter of .600 NE from Bertram Brass? Login/Join

In the reloading section Saeed has the rim diameter of the B.E.L.L. brass he got in 1986 as .805" and he needed to file them down to .777" to make them fit through the reciever ring. I have also seen reference to the rim diameter of .764" on another site that didn't give the make of brass used.

What I need to know is this - What is the rim diameter of BERTRAM BRASS in .600 NE??

I measured a couple of my .600 NEs and they are 0.804" rim diameter. Measurement was made with a Mitutoyo digital slide caliper; brass is new and unfired.

Hope that helps.

A BIG thanks goes out to you, that info helps.

Two more questions for you shiflan if I could:

1) When was the brass made/purchased?

2) Do you have a .600 NE?

I don't know when the brass was MADE, but I purchased it from Old Western Scrounger about two months ago. The ten empty cases came in a heat-sealed plastic bag with "600 Nitro" written on it in marker--other than that, there was no information of any kind. So, I don't know when it was made. OWS might know though. The headstamp reads "600 Nitro" and "BB", and two kangaroos.

I don't have a .600 NE personally (yet). I have a friend that does. The brass fits his double with no problem, but I don't remember the maker or model.

Hope that helps,

Shiflan

Shiflan, what you have is BERTRAM brass, and it is available from HDS http://www.huntingtons.com/cases.html For $98 per 10 pack!

Yes, I know I have bertram brass. That is exactly what I stated in my first post. I was just indicating that I didn't know WHEN it was made, not who made it.

Would you happen to know any other makers of 600 NE brass? I've read a lot on this board about the supposed poor quality of Bertram.

Thanks,

shiflan

No! I'm not aware of anyone other than Bertram who makes it today, BELL used to make it, but I think only on special order. Someone may be makeing "TURNED" brass for the 600 NE, and the pressures are low in this cartridge, so it might be OK.

I have been disappointed with the quality of Bertram 585 nyati brass.

1. It is soft as a dog turd.

2. The case volumes vary widely.
