this is so weird......they're publicised on the baikal site, and on eea corp's site, and yet they arent truly available!!!!!!!!

i mean.....whats the point?! and whats the problem?!!! did they have a last minute change of mind on the price? the over under is easier and cheaper to make than a true sxs rifle......

i dont know, maybe somebody should call baikal in russia and ask them......

that 12 i had,was a tough little blighter.....

the stock, well, sucked,i suppose, but action, barrel, trigger etc were really tough, and well made. you could customise one of these into a beauty if you wished to,i reckon.

as for chambering-if its anywhere near as tough as its shotgun sister, then it should be ripe for it.

cheers all,thanks. zac

I spoke to EAA here in the states. They said the 45-70 SxS rifle was to be released in the spring of 2005. It was going to be released by Remington under the Spartan Name.

ahhh,thanks foxfire,your a saint mate!

hmm, maybe baikal just advertised too far ahead.........

any idea of the cost? is it now only available through remington?

1 great thing there is i can get remy's stuff anywhere in the world!!!!!!! but lets hear the price first, even if they do the stock work,it has to stay cheap,otherwise....who'd bother?

thanks....................zac

Elephantstopper, I added the pricing link for you. The MSRP for this rifle seems to be $629.00 U.S.

Wolfgar, I'm sorry but I have no idea. I don't know anything more about the gun. I could tell you this. If it hits the market at $629.00 US for a cheap imitation SxS 45-70 I'm still gonna buy one to play with.
If I'm not mistaken I paid that kind of money for my Valmet shotgun. I love it, I added the 30-06 and the 9.3x74R barrels and still love it. Look at what they are worth today. Better than money in the stock market.

hi foxfire,whats your name chum?

i've seen the site and prices friend, the thing is,the gun doesnt exist as yet,and i dont know how to get one when it does,as yet,due to the fact that the finnish dealer for europe hasnt replied yet. i will ring,i suppose. if remy make them though, things will be fine, all smiths here sell remy gear, same as in england.

i may end up getting a valmet or tikka or finnclassic too mate,as the 9.3x74r over under baikal doesnt seem to exist as such either. bloody hell.

cheers friend..................................zac

Tembo,
That's a better site with more information. The MSRP @ $559.00 seems very reasonable.

Elephantstopper,
Check out Tembo's link it's a lot more recent.
If it's made by Remington @ $559.00 you shouldn't have any problem getting one anywhere in the world when they arrive. Big Grin

Russ, You sound a little pessimistic. Cool If it was not associated with Remington, I would tend to agree with you. All we can do is wait and see. Should be an interesting rifle to play with, if it does come out.

I've emailed the company and they told me "next year" for the last three years.
I've seen it said on the internet that Big Green was going to distribute them with the Remington name on them. I called Remington's Customer Service number they passed me along to Marketing who said that they hadn't heard about any plans to work with Bakail at all.
I realize that no one at Remington is obligated to tell me the truth but they have been good about giving answers like "We are considering products like that" or "We look at a number of options" etc.

Smiler hahaha, good one russell!!! i have a feeling there are some communication probs at baikal. i have no idea if this thing will happen at all, maybe it will, but maybe there are some financial talks going on,that are slowing things down.

thinking about it-how many of us will buy one? most of us on this forum,i bet, just because of the price if anything.......and how many more across the world?????? this rifle will be a big thing.im sure of it.

always happy to buy off remy. and especially at a reduced price.........?i thought it was going to be $629 or something????????

cheers..........................zac

Guys, FORGET about Balkaii. They apparently sold this to Remington, who will manufacture and distribute it. Try calling Remington for yourselves, exactly what I did today. Had absolutely no problem getting through to the right person and they told me at the end of the first quarter, Spring 2005. Here's their # 1-800-243-9700. Check it out for yourselves.

Every year, all of the major comapanies list products to be out in a few months. You call, and it is a few more months. Call 3 months later and it is a few more months. Some of these projects never happen at all, some happen, but much later, and some happen, but with changes form the original plan.

So when people here are skeptical, they are not picking on Remmington or being pessimistic people, they are just basing what is said on years of dealing with these things. Maybe these things will come out one day, maybe they won't. I don't care either way. A double rifle priced less than what a decetn bolt action costs will not satisfy me, I can assure you of that, sight unseen

Thanks for the link guys. I guess the 6.5-284 on the MRC action is going to wait even longer to get completed. I'll probably just buy one and let it sit in the safe until someone perfects the art of goosing the horsepower on it.

From the product manual for the sxs, o/u and single shot shotguns listed on the Spartan site,

Manufacturer:
Izhevsky Mekhanichesky Zavod
8, Promyshlennaya str.,
426063 Izhevsk, Russia

So, my question is, what does this do to the Stevens 411 sxs? Or is Baikal going to continue on with both firms?

By the way, IMZ says that the MP-221, their 45-70 sxs is only in the marketing stage. That is, they do not have this gun in production.
