The rechamber is no problem. The load I mentioned prints about 1.5" for each barrel and about 2" apart at 100 yards. So far I have had no pressure signs and gun is still tight. The Pedersoli rifles have stood up to heavy 45-70 loads such as Buffalo Bore. Dave

Art S.About 15 years ago, I opened up a Ruger No. 3 to 45-120 and bolted on a set of No. 1 wood. I could load it up to near 460 WM levels, adjusting for the barrel length. It weighed about 7 pounds and was really brutal with full house loads. Surprisingly, it was pretty accurate even with heavy bullets. I wrote an article, which Rifle accepted, then never published.

RobgunbuilderTyler- Good for you! I'm sure you have a sense of accomplishment from this project that will keep you smiling for a long time and give you the courage to take on even more complicated projects. BTW lean into the gun more and roll with the recoil more.-Rob

<xs headspace>Not bad for a start! Rolled with the punch nicely, I thought. Looks like the time I fired a rifle grenade from a M1 Garand in basic training. Back when I was almost as skinny as you.....way back....

Tyler KempI can't lean much more forward, had surgery on my left knee so it's pretty weak as is. How do you roll with recoil more? When it goes off I just get thrown back basically. If I don't lean into it I might not stay in the same spot, I guess the actual recoil numbers aren't so bad, but stock design and my weight might give issues.

Tyler KempShot some max loads today. 2 more grains than Jeffeosso's highest on ammoguide should still be under 40k pressures. My barrel is 6" long...so I'm figuring add 100 fps to the velocity? Anyways, this is the first load to make me actually step back. The weezing/laughing is my friend knowing I'm about to get hit fairly hard with that recoil pad.

What procedure? Scoped my knee, fixed my patellar tendon, took off some kneecap that was dead, and fixed a little bit of MCL.
What was the orig injury? I've had patellar tendonitis really bad for several years and it was really affecting basketball. My patellar tendon was dying, and was killing the bottom of my kneecap. The pain made me quit using it, and it got really weak. One leg looks like a wet noodle, and the other, while still being a chicken leg at least has definition. I also tore my MCL deer hunting...long story but it involves my uncle and I both stepping over a fence and he tripped me up. I fell and my knee hit a big rock and buckled inwards. I didn't want to look like a wimp so I hobbled back to the truck, but it was already huge and swollen up...so we went to the hospital, bla bla bla...
How are you healing? It's getting better. For about two weeks after the surgery it felt perfect. Usually you can't hardly touch the tendon below the kneecap or the bottom of my kneeccap without some intense pain. Couldn't jump off it hardly anymore, and basketball requires that. However, some of the pain has come back, and I think I got back into basketball too early. It is not 100% because I didn't wait long enough. However I think if I would have followed the doctor's instructions I would be much better off. I regret playing basketball and probably messing up what the surgery just fixed. LISTEN TO THE DR.!
How has physical therapy been? It's pretty painful for the first couple weeks, regaining range of motion, then it just sucks because it's long and boring. It's better when they have some good classic rock on the radio.
Any pain? Yes. It was already there once I quit taking Vicodin, in the exact same spot as always. I started playing on it way too soon because I thought I knew more than the doc. I was wrong, now it hurts all the time, but thankfully is still a lot better than it was.

Nope ..
do the recoil numbers of a 500gr bullet at 2150 in a 6.5 lbs rifle...
and then do the same with a 500gr at 2300 in 10# rifle...
I have the 6.25 version, and recoil is OBNOXIOUS

Tyler KempDoccash, these are all chronoed results from jeffeosso with his 45-120. I have not tested 500 grain bullets, but I am using more powder under the 405 grain bullet, with a 6" longer barrel. I'm guessing that I gain 100 fps. Add this, and the 45-120 is right in with 458 Lott's hottest loads from ammoguide. Do the same for the 500 grain bullets and it's not far behind. My fired cases hold 124 grains water, so I'm sure I could run a little more powder at the same pressures, although I'd have someone run it through Quickload first. And recoil in a 8.5 lb Handi-Rifle is probably about the same as a slightly heavier Lott, and somewhat close to a 460 Wthby that is braked. IMO, I have never fired a 460 Wthby, although I would love to.

Thanks for your comments on the knee surgery.
I'm currently recovering from ACL replacement and pretty extensive work on the cartilage of one of my knees.
I'm sticking to the doctor's orders on my recovery and rehab.
