Guys, today I got to fire a 500 Nitro double rifle. I've been around the block a couple times with a 375 H&H and a 500 A2 Harris Talon, but today I was present when a grey beard gunsmith was doing some barrel regulating. I got to torch off two shots standing and hooo-wweeeee, one knows when you are shooting a serious double rifle. That could get very addicting. My check book isn't deep enough for such refined stuff but maybe one of the Remington 45-70's will find their way into my vault. Or maybe a rifled bore double barrel shotgun is in my future.

But to those of you who shoot 470 Nitro and bigger double rifles I salute you!!!!

Oh what fun.

Those two rounds will cost you dearly ... or at least cost you the price of a double rifle Wink

Congrats and condolences!

Mike

Matt, they are called, bore rifles.

Just a headsup.

Glad you got to play with a double, they are fun.

-- Thought they was called "drillings."

And what's "need" got to do with caliber? I bought a .458 Win. Mag. just because it was big. And the elephants on the No. Oregon Coast are all quakin' in their boots.

clap

Drilling is "three" in German.

Generally, it is two shotgun (smooth bore) barrels and one rifle barrel.

Drei ist "three" auf Deutsch.

But that makes sense. I thought it was any rifled bore gun with multiple barrels. I remember looking at Shooter's Bible back in the late 1950's and seeing guns with 3, 4, 5 barrels -- maybe more.
