This aint yo daddy's mousegun!!

Looks just like any other AR15, but one look at the business end tells you otherwise...

Caliber .458 Socom, pushing 300gr HP's at 2150 FPS, should be just the ticket for them Texas hogs, no?

Yep!!

Pretty simple conversion as near as I can tell. Tromix mates their proprietary bbl to a standard bbl extension, which has been cut and ramped to facilitate feeding of the fat caliber rounds they chamber their bbls for. The sides of the bolt recess and extractor are milled away to allow for the larger case rim and the ejection port is opened up slightly.

Tony Rumore at Tromix recommends the beefy, HD DPMS upper receiver for their "Sledgehammer" AR's and I went with his recommendation. The choice of upper receiver style is yours.

Peter Pi at Cor-Bon is loading ammo, but at $30 a box suggested retail, I don't think I'll be buying much pre-loaded stuff. A 20 round magazine will hold 7 rounds and you can stuff another 3 to make 10 in a 30 rounder. .458 Socom will feed out of a standard, unmodified AR 223 mag.

Cases for the .458 Socom are from Starline and are made from lengthened 50AE.

I haven't shot it much yet to fully appreciate it, but it seems to function just fine and it certainly is invigorating to shoot.
