In using my .416 Ruger in RSA this year, it became clear that for plainsgame that a 1-4x scope was not quite sufficient. At the range I was shooting moa with it, but in the bush the lack of magnification at ranges over 70yds was apparent. My question is that with this being a magnum action, what scopes will fit it? I think on most Leopolds the tube is just not long enough before it starts tapering into the objective.

The 1.75x6E scope might work. When they first brought out this model, it was very short, and didn't work on hardly any bolt actions. They have lengthened the maintube now. However, that Rigby action is so long, you might have a problem sliding it back far enough without hitting the bell with the front ring. The 1.5x5 2 would work, but that is only 1x more than you have now. If you go to their website, you can find specs of all the scopes. Ruger does make an offset scope ring, but that would be a last choice.

I don't understand your thinking, a 4X scope is good enough for 500 yard shots...all you have to do is put the cross hair on the shoulder...at 10 yards to 100 yards you don't need any scope over 2X, you lose to much field of view....I have shot big game at beyond 300 and 400 with a 2.5X scope many times.
