Buying a 375 for my Girlfriend

Lhook7Buying a 375 for my Girlfriend
I am looking for an inexpensive 375 H&H with crf for my girlfriend. We are going to have a muzzle break installed, so I don't want to spend a lot of money on a nice rifle, only to ruin (in my eyes) the look with a muzzle break. I was thinking maybe a CZ. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

vapodogBe patient and wait for Remington to finally get their 798 to the distribution system.

ramrod340The CZ is a very large feeling stock in my opinion. Hard to beat the MKX Whitworths A 375 on basically a normal hunting stock. Watch and you can get one for the price of a CZ. Or as suggested the 798 or Daly.
One of the M70 stainless.
This one is now sold but would have been perfect. Brake included.

As usual just my $.02

nordrsetaIf you must pursue blast enhancement to reduce recoil Magnaporting is much prettier than any brake, and less expensive to boot. Perhaps the elegant trapezoids aren't quite as effective as a brake but some less than maximum loads, a mercury recoil reducer, and a Sims pad can pick up the slack.

However, if you've got an extra 470AR sitting around....

Lhook7Thanks for the recommendations guys. Does anyone know when Remington is going to start distributing the 798?

I'm sure the 798s will be flying off the shelves just as soon as the Spartan line is up to speed.

Daly had that thing listed in .375 and I don't think they ever got a single completed gun to market. I had and just sold one of the actions for the .375 however.....so we know that much exists.
We'll know when they get here and hopefully someone will post critique for us.

Lhook7I found a Charles Daly Mauser NIB for $669. Is that a good price for this rifle?

If that's a 375 H&H one might make a few bucks on it.....

Lhook7,Have you concidered a .376 Steyr? Being thats its a bit shorter lenght cartridge it could be a better choice for a lady.

Aspen Hill AdventuresA .375H&H does not need a muzzle brake. Please do not add one to such a rifle.
Focus on stock fitting, over all weight of the rifle (on the heavy side) and a light trigger job to make it work for your girlfriend.
Don't shoot hot loads and enjoy.

Call Wayne at Island Firearms in Pittsburgh 412-264-4867. He has a pre 64 model 70 with a rebarrel in 375 with a very short stock (about 12.5 inches). It is a duplicate of a factory barrel on a pre 64 mag action in a factory stock with a Leupold 2X7 scope. I believe it can be had for about $1200.

It is a decent rifle. Key issue to most is the lack of sights. It is the same action as the later MKX the barrel is also 26 where the old ones were 24.

That looks to be a good start. Take a rasp to it after she has a chance to throw it up a little and maybe knock down some of the monte-carlo hump to better fit her. Look at the recoil pad and LOP. If she already shoots let her tell you what the feel is like. If not, start with lighter loads and build up until she is comfortable with factories and then start working for velocity and accuracy. You are a good person helping her get her own rifle.

jro45Good move I'm sure she'll love it!!!

ramrod340That's interesting. I thought the Daly had a 26" barrel. My wife is only 5'4" won't quote the weight(I want to live in case she sees this) She has been shooting my 375 of the bench. It is a Whitworth. I bought of bunch of the closeout 270gr CTs. Anyway using around 62 grs of 4064 and 2460. Gives about 2600fps. She uses a Past on the bench with no complaints.
As usual just my $.02

Lhook7Thanks to everyone for the tips. I was going to tell her about it last night, but have decided to wait and surprise her with it in a few weeks when it's ready to shoot.

El DeguelloI've got a VAIS on my CZ .416 Rigby. Looks awful, but it sure makes shooting it a pleasant experience! Easier on my shoulder than my .375 H&H No. 1!!
