Did the British use a web and leather sling with the raw hide thongs?
To be used on the 1920s or so guns that have the large eye on the barrel band and butt stock to tie the thong to.

It's a web sling and at the ends is leather sewn to the web and made into a cone then the thong slides
thru the cone to tie to the barrel band eye and the one on the butt of the stock.

Like the one Jeff's Outfitters sells but a web sling instead of leather.

I thought I had seen references to it but can't find any pictures of or information on them any where.

If they did, does anyone have pictures of one or a place to buy them?

You might perhaps be more accurate with a "hook ended" sling that has an "s" shaped hook ( actually looks more like a "j") on the end. Shown here on a little BSA Martini I once owned.

The hook end on the sling on my BSA Martini being exactly as per those posted by ALF in his topmost picture.

I like the # 215A. Do the clip hooks swivel or are they fixed in position to the eye?

Do they scratch the finish? I Seen a picture where the eye of the eye and hook was leather covered
but not the hook part.

I had read somewhere that the hook type like on Alfs 500 Jeffery were more of a Winchester
"thing" or style and not necessarily a British style.

But this kind of puts that to rest.

The "s" (or "j") type that I have and as shown on the leather sling do rotate. I don't know about the 215A type, but these until recently, were still of a pattern used on British Army web equipment!

Notably BREN GUN SLING ends had these...I believe. You might try to contact Alfred J Parker in Birmingham, England who may have some!

The "s" type don't scratch at all, no, as they are rounded in shape so no sharp edges. However that is not to say that if you crushed one in a car against the wood it would not leave an impress!
