I'm pretty sure the A-Square manual has the 450#2. Tell us about the gun you're building...

Judson In my 450 No2 double I have loads with IMR 3031, IMR 4831, and RL 15. I like RL 15 best for the 480 and 500 grain bullets. My rifle is regulated for 75 grains of Cordite. I use 88 grains of RL 15 with all the bullets 480 Woodleigh Soft and Solid, 500 Hornady Soft and oldstyle Solid, and the 500 Swift A Frame. With the 350 grain Hornady I use 81 grains of IMR 3031. WARNING,YOU MUST USE A FILLER WITH ALL LOADS. Either Dacron or Foam. I much prefer Foam that I cut out with a chamfered [sharpened] 50 BMG case. The filler MUST be compressed. I have a Jeffery 450#2. The best load is 89.5 gr of Rl-15,4.0 grs of dacron and a 480gr woodleigh soft or solid with a fed 215 primer crimped and full length sized.-Rob Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers to do incredibly stupid things- AH (1941)- Harry Reid (aka Smeagle) 2012 Nothing Up my sleeves but never without a plan and never ever without a surprise!

My rifle shot pretty good with 89 grains of RL 15,[I tested as high as 93 grains] but the groups at 100 yards were a little low. By going to 88 grains the rounds hit with the sights at 100 yards. It did not change the 25 and 50 yard groups any measureable amount. DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY

Thank you for the information. The rifle I am building is based on a French double action. The pressures for the .450 # 2 is well within the proof of this gun so I expect no problem here, however I will be re proofing the rifle. If this picture comes out you will see the action with the barrels fitted to the mono block. The sights, quarter rib and other hard ware has not been fitted at the time this picture was taken. I will keep you informed as the work progresses if you would like. At present the quarter rib has been made along with the front sight, forearm hanger, front swivel, and a new extractor. Judson - Looks like you're well on your way! I've often considered this route, but it seems that it always adds up to a cost that is unjustifiable. Maybe you're doing some of the work yourself? If I may ask, what have you "budgeted" for this project?

I do have a bit of an advantage I build custom rifles as a living. This is a project that I have been thinking about for several years and I finally decided to get going on it. I work on the rifle "after hours" and since I am building it my self you can sort of say the labor is free. What would the cost be? I do not really know at this point what it would cost for the finished rifle as I am not far enough along to really get a feel for this. A guess would be when finished it would probably run around $8500 depending on the wood and stuff like engraving. Building double rifles is sort of new to me so I will keep you guys informed as things go forward if you would like. I will try to post a picture of one of the rifles I built and as you will see I usually work with bolt rifles. The picture I will try to post is of a P-17 chambered for the .366DGW. NE 450 #2 what sort of foam filler are you refering to? I build custom rifles but for the most part modern stuff so What is the best foam for a filler? I have never worked with a cartridge where a filler was needed so I would like youe advice on this. By the way, thanks for the loading info it will be a lot of help!!! Judson, For filler I have used dacron pillow stuffing and foam. I much prefer the foam. I cut it out using a chamfered [sharpened] 50 BMG case. Just make sure the foam is compressed between the bullet and the powder. I have used 4 different types of foam and cannot tell the difference between them. The foam that you have left over after cutting out the outline of your rifle in a pelican case works fine. Also the grey packing foam will work too. DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY
