Everyone who is offended by the looks of the Guide gun can easily get one of the nice, slim, wood stocked African models. Unscrew the sissy slots and put the thread protector on and you have a slim, lightweight and well balanced rifle that admittedly looks better.

It did not take an "ugly rifle" to survive it. Wipe it off, dry it out and hose down the action with WD40. Just don't put it back in the case until the air is really dry or it will rust in a few hours!

I also saw stainless steel rifles develop pitting under those conditions when the owners did not take the steps I mentioned above.

I got an Alaskan 375 which I really like but I don't know about the stock on the guide gun until I get to try it. It does look a bit odd but maybe it really works......

And I find the 375 Ruger cartridge very easy to load for, accurate and I prefer it anyday to the H&H.

The brake on the guide gun does not worry me as its removable.

But one thing about Ruger - they don't mind sticking out their necks and trying new ideas.

The rest of the American gun factory manufacturers are pretty ho hum in comparison. Same old stuff every year.......

I certainly respect your opine of the gun, and to each his own applies here, and I am sure its a workhorse and it surely does shoot good, and bottom line is, thats all that counts as it only has to please the owner..

I have been an avid fan of the Ruger African model as the best factory rifle to come down the pike since the Win Pre 64 mod. 70, then the idiot bean counters stuck a recoil reducer on the end of it, that sucks..Wouldn't you know I sold or traded off both of mine, one a .338 and the other a 9.3x62 that sucks also. Were I to get another then I would have to circumize behind its projection.
