To keep costs down and see how I handle and enjoy the recoil level of the 404 Jeffery.

Can a CZ in .416 Rigby be loaded down to approximate the recoil of a 404?
The Rigby will be kept an open sight rifle as my custom rifle will be open sight only rifle. I know the Rigby uses more powder.

I want to start low and work my way up slowly to approximate the recoil of a 404 at between about 2200 to 2350 fps.

Just to make sure that level of recoil is not more than I enjoy shooting.

I know the CZ can be chambered in 404 Jeffery but I don't want to spend that much $ on an experimental rifle. If the recoil is not a problem then I will have my custom rifle built in 404 and sell the Rigby.
If it's more than I like I'll drop down to a 375H&H. But I really like the 404 Jeffery.

Will this work to at least get me in the class of recoil of the 404 Jeffery?

At the Houston Big Bore Shoot complements of Rich(ISS) i used some of his cast boolits-325grGC with 59gr 5744=~2200fps.Bearclaw Bullets has a 400grLGC im going to use when i run out of Richs.This should get you a start.BEST,kim

The recoil of the 416 Rigby or 416 Rem can duplicate the 404 simply by using the same velocity...

I shoot my 404 with a 400 Gr. bullet at 2400 FPS, the same as I did my 416 Rigby, recoil was the same.

If your talking about the original 404 load, that wasn't all that popular at 2100 FPS, then you can do that with the 404 or 416s also..The later 404 load of 2300 was very popular in Africa and was the load that made the caliber popular contrary to popular belief, and it too can be duplicate with a velocity change, like the other loads.

The .416 Rigby on the other hand can be loaded up to 2700 FPS or even 2900 FPS with a 400 gr. bullet..The 404 can only go up to 2600 FPS, both in 26 inch barrels.
