I have a chance to buy some 416 X Bullets (300, 325 and 400 grains) at a great price and was wondering if they have a history of shooting well in a CZ 550 416 Rigby? I know every rifle is different, just hoping there is a trend one way or the other.

Secondly, some of the bullet have cannelures and some don't.....should I pass on those that don't?

The 350's shoot well in mine ... and hit like the hammer of Thor on water jugs at 200 yards! Very, VERY impressive.

Have not tried the ones with no cannelure.

I recently got the 300 gr. X's to shoot in my Ruger No 1 416 Rem. Pick 'em up, they will proabably work.

I know of someone using the 350 X bullets in the CZ550's ancestor, the brno 602.416 Rigby 28" barrel and pushes them well over 2900fps.
This bullet was 'rupturing hogs' he reported and something of interest is he once found the bullet lying on the ground just on the far side of a downed one.

I used the 300 Barnes X in my CZ 550 in .416 Rigby, exclusively on my African Safari last August. Took Kudu, Zebra, Gemsbok,Hartebeast, and a extremely dangerous Springbok. One shot kills, one and all. I used 105 Gr H4350, with Norma brass, and CCI Mag primers. As I don't have a chrono I figured about 2700fps. Deadly accurate.

I shoot a M70 416 Rem Mag with 400gr Barnes X, max. Re15 and it works and is very accurate. The Barnes 400 gr solids also shoot within an inch of the X's at 100yds too.

Kevin, Yes , on everything but Zebra. the Zebra went into the chest and took out the heart. Chest wall on a zebra is about Ten to 12 inches thick. bone, muscle, hide. Dangest thing I ever saw! never did find the bullet though. the skinners partially gutted the zebra in the field and I think that is where it got left. Either way they were all one shot kills. My PH really loved my .416. "didn't have to track anything." I shot it. It walked a few steps and fell down. I sighted both my .416 and my 30-06 dead on at 100 yards, then practiced out to 300, just hold over a little. Taped the drop tables to the side of my rifles. With a rangefinder on board it made you confidence increase. Made the trip less worrysome about bullet drop and distance. My best shot was 312 yard one shot springbok, in the neck with my 30-06.
