I want to build a 45 calibre on a ruger #1 and am looking at the .45 -110 or 120 and the 458 Lott but have no experience with either. Anyone out there have any experience with either of those or have a better suggestion?

450 Ackley or Lott. Great cartridge, cheap bullets, and great choices.

go for it.

I am currently having a Ruger No.1 458 Win restocked and rechambered to 458 Lott, after much input from AR participants. The Lott seems to be the most practical and versatile as you can also use 458 Win ammo in a pinch, the conversion is very easy to do (you can do it yourself with a hand reamer in a few minutes), you can use inexpensive 458 Win reloading dies for the Lott and you can use plentiful 375 H&H brass if you already have tons like I do. The Lott can be loaded up to 2300 fps with 500 grain bullets which is plenty of power, significantly more than the Winchester, and it can be downloaded to 45-70 power or with cast bullets for plinking. And of course Hornady now offers factory loads and other commercial gun and ammo manufacturers are adopting it as a standard loading.

Can anyone give me a comparison of recoil between a 375 H&H and the 458 Lott. I have a 375 in a Ruger #1. I'd also like to know if there are advantages to the Lott over the 45 - 120 or the other way around. Thanks for your help.

Not too much more recoil. Check your other thread, I posted about this there.
