Hello all, This is my first post here. Looks like a great site. I am booked for a buff hunt in Mozambique with Ken Moody/Bahati Safaris in June. I have a CZ550 in 416 Rigby and was wondering if anyone has an opinion on the Norma 416 ammo with the Swift A-frames and the solids they offer. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. It seems like it is about the least expensive stuff I can find at around $85 a box from Able Ammo. Thanks!! Monte

the swift a frame is a excellent bullet and many people have used i succesfully on buffalo another plains game...... woodleigh....and barns x bullets would also be great choises just remember with the barns x they penatrate like solids so if your shooting into a heard be extreamly carful. you might wanna contact superiour ammo they can custom load you ammo and i highly recommend them. http://www.superiorammo.com/index.html

Try Normas new African PH line of ammunition with heavy for caliber bullets; .416 Rigby is loaded with 450 grains Woodleigh soft and solids at ca 2350 fps! Hit's like Thors hammer

I picked up a brochure at the SHOT show. Calibers include 375 (350), 404 Jeffery (450), 416 Rem and Rigby (450), 450 Rigby (550), 458 Lott (500), 470 (500), 500 NE (570), 505 Gibbs (650)....I think that's it (don't have brochure at the office). Obviously the # in the para's are bullet weight. Velocities were somewhat mild at around 2100fps if memory serves. The 450 Rigby was maybe a bit faster at 2350 fps. All available in Woodleigh softs and solids...and nothing else. Gary DRSS NRA Lifer

600 grains bullet is the 505 loadaed with, but its expensice, ca 30 dollar pr cartridge here in Norway it will cost. They have designed the ammo with the Knock out value in the ammo as a principa l rule of the load velocity and it will be fun to get test reports, and i will see it in use in Zimbabwe this year also if everything goes according to plan

I'm going to try to respond to your post re Norma ammo. The PH line should certainly be considered,as almost all the calibers are heavy bullet for caliber loads which is a real advantage for buffalo. You should also consider one of the custom ammo makers such as Superior Ammo in South Dakota. There have been many posts about them here. You can get tailored ammo for your rifle with whatever case, powder, primer and bullet you want. They also have a trial pack for several different kinds of bullets with most of the other components staying the same. Good luck and welcome to the best African hunting forum on the net. MUFASA
