chuck375570g TSX expansion
What is the lowest impact velocity that anyone has used a 570g TSX at and still gotten decent expansion? I'm planning to take my 500 Jeffery elk hunting this January again (if my health permits) and would like to know what the minimum impact velocity I should be looking at for decent expansion. My load is 105g H4895 giving 2410 fps. Sighted in 3" high at 100 yards, it's 5" low at 250 yards moving at 1982 fps and 12" low at 300 yards going 1786 fps ...
Thanks,
Chuck

jwp475That load will kill an Elk whether it expands or not, realy makes no difference

Yep, think of all those poor guys using 300 Mags. They'd love to see a half inch frontal diameter with that kind of energy at impact.

chuck375Yeah I guess you're all right, still around 4000 ft/lbs of energy at 300 yards and the bullet should still expand.
Thanks all,
