. What would a Winchester Mod 70 pre 64 in .458 Winchester Magnum (built 1958) in good overall condition sell for in the US nowadays ? Just looking for a ballpark number. Naked, no sights on it. Thanks for any ideas / guidance ! Charlie . "Up the ladders and down the snakes!"

I have seen a extremely nice one go for upwards of 8K. The lack of sights, IMO, will cause value to go way down. The rear sight was only offered on the pre-64 .458 and a some of the earlier post-64 .458's. I am assuming that they used up stock on those. Wisner makes a very nice reproduction of one, but again it will not be original. Also if the front sight is gone, make sure the barrel has not been cut. It should be 25". If it has been cut, that will also affect value. There is also three versions of the stoock, one with no cross bolts, one with one cross bolt and one with two crossbolts. Not sure which one is the most uncommon, but I think it is the no crossbolt vesion as they had some issues with stocks splitting and added the crossbolt(s) to solve that problem. As usual, pics would really be needed to give a value.

$3500 to $4000 is what Ive seen at Gun shows Gun shows and a few on the internet at under $5000. BTW all have iron sights in that caliber. Ive bought a few for $2800 to $3000 over the last three or 4 years, Ive seen some special order Win for higher prices..
