Coul a cz safari barrel be re-bored to .470 capstic caliber ?? I know rebarreling may be cheaper but if you got the rifle cheap in the first instance and wanted to make use of the integral island and sights already on the barrel ??

PC: I had a 375 CZ barrel rebored to 416 by a barrel maker here in Alberta,he said it was the first and the last he would ever do. It seems they are hard and therefore hard to work with. The 416 shoots like a dream by the way. Regards Martin

Which caliber are you starting with? Think about how much barrel you'll be left with. .475" is a big hole. If you're starting with a 458 Winchester, you'll be fine. Me, I'd take a 416 Rigby and do an Mbogo if I was hankering for a rebore. Those that do the reboring will tell you there's no guarantee a rebore will shoot well. If you spend a bunch of money reboring, and aren't happy, you'll be wishing you'd bought a barrel and had the sights put on.

The barrel is a .300 win mag...but the rifle is a cz 550 safari and the .300 in mag barrel is the same blank as used for the whole range from .300 up to .458. Just throwing around ideas I suppose.

PC About 6 years ago I pulled a .375 barrel out of a nice early ZKK 602 and sent it to Dick Nickel in the States. He bored it out to .416 so I could make a Rigby up (this was before CZ were on the market with their .416 Rig). As Martin says above, Brno barrels are hard to rebore and Dick wasn't very happy with the results. It shoots ok but doesn't look very nice - chatter marks etc. There is also a limit on how many calibres you can go up from the original bore size. eg .375 to .416 was ok but .375 to .470 would be too much of a jump - not sure why this is. PC, Since you will getting a CZ 505 and you have the 585 Nyati you have the silly stuff covered at the big bore end so perhaps the ideal thing for that rifle is to rechamber to 30/378 and then you will have the silly stuff covered at the small bore end Mike

PC, Why dont you keep the 300WM as is and enjoy it for a couple of years, load it up and shoot it as a "training rifle". When the barrel finally expires, rebarrel it for what you want, why waste an otherwise good barrel? Cheers... Con

Yeah you r ight folks...silly idea. Mike The .300 RUM would be a fairly simple conversion and if it does not stay a .300 winnie that might be an option. Con...you make a good point
