For now, and the foreseeable future, it would be used for paper and north american game. I thought about carrying it this year for deer here in CA.

Based on the above, 6x would be fine. However I do not know if that particular Weaver will stand up to the recoil.

E-mail the company, and get their own statement to that effect. That way, if the scope fails, you can return it with fewer hassles.

Dago: I also have a 375 and had settled in the 6 x for most of my shooting. It should be mentioned that I hunt mostly at night and my gun is a very heavy one. Now it sports an European scope, but used many years a Weaver variable with no ill comsequences.
Good shooting

On my M70 .375 Magnum I use the Leupold QR bases and rings to mount a Leupold 4X. It is a good set-up. The 6X Weaver should be good for load testing and some hunting in open country.

You seem to like the 6x for your '06. You will find, if I am not mistaken, that your 375 will just be your '06's big brother. The trajectories are similar and the killing power is in a different league. Put that 6x on and go deer hunting. You will be impressed just like the deer you shoot with it. I went to a 375 H&H for hunting deer just to get used to my 375 in preparation for a DG hunt. Now I just don't want to go back. I use mine for most everything but squirrel. Now what kind of load could I use for that upcomming squirrel outing....... Maybe a 220 gr Hornaday solid loaded to about 1800 fps? Maybe. Good hunting. "D"

Hey guys, I have a Winchester Mod. 70 safari express in 375 H&H, great rifle. But I have only shot it open sites, which out of the box was right on at 100yds. BUT, stock would feel better if I were using a scope. I would like to put a Weaver 2.5x scope on it, but don't have the money right now to buy one.

What I do have however is the Weaver 6x that came off my 06AI, it is one of the newer ones, about 4 years old maybe. Great scope, I have another on my Whelen. Is 6x too much magnification for a 375? Am I better off just waiting?

My other question, I was going to get Leupold quick release bases and rings, and was going to go with the low rings, will that work or will it sit too low, better to go with medium?

thanks everyone for the input.

When scoping a .375 H&H for North American game. consider this: A .375 H&H with a 300 grain bullet very closely follows the bullet path of a .308 Winchester. They shoot much flatter than most people give them credit for. Works great for NA game out to relatively long range, 300-400yds.
Now don't jump me for being one that blasts away at everything I can see at any range. 95% of my shots are around 100yds, but I have made a few 350yd+ shots with my .375 and a 4X Ziess and the holdover felt very natural. 2 of my whitetails on the wall were 325-350yd running shots (open wheat fields) with my .375H&H. Its my favorite deer rifle period. No tracking required.

Hi
I also have a Winchester Mod. 70 safari express but in .458 Win Mag.

I use Leupold QR basers and rings.
In the rings rests a Leupold 3-9 x 40.
If memory serves me correctly I use low rings.

I think this is a very good set up, why use a small scope on a big boore? Only concern I have on scope selection is eye relif, leupold has tha longest eye relif i know of.

The euoropean scopes are mutch better optics wise then Leupold, but are disqualified due to too short eye relif, typical value 80 mm.

That was my experience.

DR,

What are you going to be using the .375 on? Paper? North American game? African plains game? African dangerous game?

Thanks guys for the input. it's really appreciated.

I have for more than 7 years used a Zeiss V 2,5-10x50 on my 375 Wea. It has the field of view for close shots and enough magnification to use at extended ranger on red deer and moose.

I have used 270 and 300 bullest from Swift and North Fork and have not fired more than 29 shoots at game with it bagging 24.( I have shot a couple of clean misses at driven game when they have come in packs, missing deer number 3 or 4 after a magazine full...)

If your after soft skinned game in North America I think you will do just great with your 6x scope.

I am still getting my Remington 700 .375 Ultra put together and wanted to go with a Leupold 6x42 A/0 Target scope, mostly for the eye relief.
Yes, my idea of a .375 is NOT in the majority here by any means.
It isn't intended to be a DRG at all, so I went with the 'Tactical' look using a bigger scope with Stoney Point target turrets on it.
Anyway, I'm going to install a Leupold Vari-X III 4.5-14x40 scope on this rifle in a set of Weaver Grand Slam rings on a Mounting Solutions base, tactical base, that is!
My reason for using this scope is much like yours - I already had it to use. It's also interchangable with two other scopes just like it, making it a good choice for ME.
It's been test fitted and we had to rework the forward section of the base to allow clearance for the objective bell slope. The sights have been removed and the holes filled with brass screws.
With the type of hunting you or I have intended, the scope selection will work.
I may end up getting a NIKON 6x42 later, even though the eye relief is a bit less.
Pix and a test session are forthcoming.
Good Luck with your project!
