What are the scope rings you use on your CZ 550 Magnum. I notice Leupold and Burris both make aftermarket rings but they only come in the Medium height. I would like to find some low height rings if possible. Anyone know who makes them and where to get them"

Try Talley or warnes both companies make good rings IMHO

I've got a set of Warne fixed mounts due any day now in medium height. Reason I got medium is that the 'smith advised that anything lower will snag the bolt.

I have the 550 Varmint Laminate with a 6.5-20x40 Leupold on it. I used the Burris CZ mounts which fit perfectly. If you are using a 50mm+ objective, these probably won't work. But for the 40s or 44s, you should be fine.

I am mounting a Leupold 2.5x Compact and wanted to mount it low if possible, looks like that may not be the case since medium rings are all that are available. Maybe they have to be to for the bolt to clear??? Also, I just got the scope and am wondering if it may not be too short.

How long is the Compact? I have a 1-4x20 mounted in Warne rings (medium to clear the bolt handle!). It's just about long enough to fit regular rings, i.e. not extensions. The tube is 5.9 inches but only 5.5 measured from behind the gold ring. I have about 0.2 of clearance on both sides.

I've just picked up the same rifle (375 H&H) and I think I'll be going with the Warne rings. Have only read one negative on them since I've been looking. By the way, Leupold Customer Service says they don't offer ringmounts for the 550:

Mr. Rxxxx,

We currently do not have a ringmount for the CZ 550. I recommend contacting Warne Manufacturing at 503-657-5590, they may have the ringmounts that you are looking for.

Regards,
Randy Soto

Toobroke,
I was going by the Midway catalog on page 517, top right that lists "Leupold No-Tap Mounts for Grooved Receivers" CZ 550 Matte Medium, Product #960-034 at $45.95. Now Leupold does not claim them? Weird.

I had a similar post a while ago and the consensus was that the Talleys were the nicest. Talked to Martini and Hagn the other day about the same thing and they said, go with Talleys.

Okay, Warne fixed mounts (medium) arrived today. I've already placed my Leupold 2.5X in the rings to check placement. Scope fits fine, front "gold ring" is not covered. To be perfect, the scope would need to come back another millimetre or so (covering the gold ring) but then I "stock crawl" under pressure, so the current placement is fine. Tomorrow, I'll place electrical tape on the scope tube and tighten the rings up to working specs, then it'll be the week-end and "play time".
Cheers...

Magnum Hunter,

Haven't looked at a Midway catalog since they stopped shipping to us military-types stationed overseas, but I still had last year's catalog lying around, and you're right, that's exactly what it says. Think I'll email Leupold again and see what they say...

I think the lowest mount for Brno and CZ is Hillver by Bsquare. The low rings is 8.5 mm high. Similar to Lynx.

While y'all are on the subject of CZ 550's...

How should I go about finding barrel-band sling mount(s) for the forward QD / Uncle Mike's type I see in use on safari videos?

The CZ 550 Safari Magnum I have in .416 Rigby feels okay with the stock-mounted sling swivel, but my ZKK 602 .375 has that awkward feel (shoulder pinch) to it.

Thx,

Talleys are so much better than warnes any way you cut it..They are more in line, better machining, and better return to zero IMO...

I used Warnes for several years and finely dumped them all and got all Talleys..I have the Talley bases cut to fit, thereby return to zero is much more precise and my scopes are all in center focal plane, very important and overlooked factor as to return to zero and accurach of the rifle...

Magnum Hunter,

Here's the latest answer I got from Leupold Customer Service on the rings in the Midway catalog; guess I got bad info in the first answer. Doesn't make me feel much better about (the people hired to answer questions about) Leupold support:

Summary: CZ mounts

Steve, We do make a mountring for the CZ 550. It should work on your rifle. The part number is 54350. These are 1-inch medium rings.

I like the Talleys, wish they'd make 30mm rings for the CZ's.
