I don't know that most makers want to go there for fear of someone using the claim to do something stupid. Besides, the case diameter is less important than the operating pressure you want to use.

As a practical matter, all actions that can take a 505 Gibbs case are stronger than the primer cup you stick in the back of that case.

homer Guess I didn't think of that! sofa

All this talk of RIP's .475 Kifaru and that the CZ550 action in .505 Gibbs having a maximum pressure of 55,100 psi in THE .404 THREAD, just had me wondering "IF" there were any stronger actions using better steel (maybe even stainless) out there?!? bewildered

I'm sure there are stronger actions than the CZ. If I were building a 408 Cheytac I would consider something else just because. But my instincts tell me that no action could be sold in the US for as long as the CZ series if 70,000 PSI would make it come apart.

You actually can order a Mcmillan .50BMG action with a .640 Boltface. Thats a heck of a strong action. I had four CCI-35 primer burn throughs on one and the action handled the gas venting safely! There are literally no cartridges with a .640 head diameter that a CZ550 won't handle safely.
WATCH OUT FOR CCI PRIMERS! THEIR QUALITY CONTROL IS QUESTIONABLE. I WON'T USE THEM PERIOD!!!-Rob

IMO your best bet is to get a Granite Mountain Arms magnum double square bridge Mauser action with the .750" bolt.

Or you could get Gottfried Prechtl (Germany) or Karl Heinz Ritterbusch (Germany) or Fred Wells (Prescott, Arizona) can make one for your, but GMA turns them out pretty quick.

The only other alternative I can recommend is a P14 Enfield action which only has a .700" bolt but whose left locking lug extends to the front of the bolt face to effectively give it more meat to hold the case rim.

That is a sweet looking action, but it only goes to the Rigby case head size, not the .505 Gibbs size. thumbdown

Now I would not post something like that with out talking to the owner first. They are going to come out with a bigger action up to 50 BMG.

You wouldn't happen to know Mr. Wells website, do you 500grains? He used to have one, and I saved his link, but it is not valid now?!? bewildered

I don't know if Mr. Wells currently has a website. He used to have an incredible waiting time, but can't say about now.
