Anyone tried shooting 416 Barrett high BC bullets out of their Weatherby?

I'm picking that twist will be your problem if there is one, as I understand it, the Barret bullets are long for calibre. Have a look here Steves Pages some useful stuff re bullet lengths & rates of twist. Guess you'd need to know the lengths of Barret bullets, a 416 FMJ Rnd nose goes 1.4" long if thats any help. I have pulled one of the .416 Barrett bullets and measured it and posted pictures here, will search later. It is a lot longer than 1.4". Barrett chose 1:12" twist for that "400-grain" bullet (actual less than 400 grains), with good results. At slower speed you will need faster twist, so the .416 Weatherby will need about (2700/3250)x12" twist = 9.97" 1:10" TWIST might do it for your slow-poke .416 Weatherby.

Yep, we been through this before. The drawing is my penciling from a bullet I pulled, weighed, and measured. The pretty photo of the same bullet is courtesy of GSC's Industrial Espionage unit. A supposed BC for the bullet is 0.943, and it is 2.078" long or thereabouts, and weighs 391.2 grains. Macifej commented that Lapua had made bullets with the same base configuration. I stand by the 1:10" TWIST recommendation for a .416 Rigby or Wby to shoot this bullet.

Lapua's Lock Base bullets are similar in design. And their 750 grain 50 BMG bullet is very similar: http://www.vihtavuori-lapua.com/50-bmg-127-mm-50-p-97.html SCI Life Member DSC Life Member
