I don't know if this has been discussed before. If so, I apologise. I recently purchased a new M70 .375 H&H and loaded it up to fire a few rounds. (I was mostly interested in the recoil, never having shot a caliber this large. No problem.) When I picked up my empties, I noticed that all four of the cartridge necks were crimped, to one degree or another, and a couple of the cases also had a small dent on the side. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it something to be concerned about? There didn't appear to be anything mechanically wrong with the rifle. The action worked smoothly, etc.

The dents on the neck area of the cases come from the forceful ejection smacking the spinning case against the right rear receiver of the rifle behind the ejection port. Look closely and you might see traces of brass on the rifle where the cases strike it. This is no problem in combat. If you don't like it in practice, just work the bolt more slowly and go easier on your brass. Some of my M70's do it and some don't. I would not worry about it.

RIP, Thanks for the information. I was having these awful visions of a jammed rifle while something large is running away from/at me!
