For those who have the first issue of Harald Wolf's "Hatari Times", I am interested in your opinions. Please look for his rifle design, "the prototype professional hunters rifle" and tell me what you think. Specifically your thoughts on the aesthetics of the design. For those who do not have the magazine. Wolf took an m98 action and installed what appears to be a relatively straight tapered barrel about 23-24 inches long with very simple express sights. The stock I believe is a new, laminated wood replica of the WWII K98k stock, complete with sling cutout. The barrel mounted swivel is at the 3 o'clock position to be used in conjunction with the side sling. The stock is contoured without the upper handguard of course, to look like a very utilitarian rifle, if I remember correctly it has the bolt knob relief and I am not sure about the bolt take down disk. The metalwork is polished and blued almost black. For me it has a very rugged, austere look about it. This design "speaks to me". Any opinion anyone wants to offer I would like to hear. Roger, Yep, I have all the Hatari Times. The drop of the stock of Harald's rifle is nearly the same as the 458 Lott I built for Jim Hackiewicz. Jim's rifle has a AcraBond Bastogne Walnut stock vs the multi ply laminate on Harald's rifle. So, you can say Harald's stock is a modern update of the old 98 stocks, with proper dimensions for iron sight use and recoil management. Only disadvantage of the sling is it is not as quick to remove when one is getting ready for serious action. Jim has a photo posted of his Lott below in the post "More 458 Lott loads and info" Email Address is rifles@earthlink.net Web site http://home.earthlink.net/~rifles/ [This message has been edited by John Ricks (edited 04-26-2002).] | |||
