Dear all Would appreciate any input on my 32 birthday pressie to myself. bought a CZ 550 in .416 rigby and also a leupold VXII 1x4x20 scope. Having all sorts of tweaks done to the stock and action to ensure reliable function and no cracking. However haven't bought mounts yet and rifle is in RSA with my smith as i speak and scope is with me Duh!!??? want to save some cash and buy some mounts on the internet, but am unsure which ones to buy, I also have a burris 3x9x40 that i can use on this rifle and would need mounts for this as well. I know alot of you guys have variations on this theme and was wondering what you guys use? any advise is very very much appreciated. Many thanks cheers, tm "one of the most common african animals is the common coolerbok(or coleman's coolerbok). I second 500 Grain suggestion. I used CZ original non detachable rings on all my CZ (416, 375, 9.3) but bought Talley detachable recently. Week later I ordered second pair since I was impressed with the first pair. I attempted to use Warne on 9.3 x 62 few years back. I ruined 3 pairs sent as replacement for first one. Sent them all back. Even 9.3 sheered recoil lug on rear base on every one of them. I also bought Burris rings for 9.3 but have not use them long enough to form opinion. 450 RIGBY

Three in a row for Talley. "Experience" is the only class you take where the exam comes before the lesson.

ok so does anyone know what part numbers i need to get talley QDs on the gun? can i buy them from midway? from their literature, it looks like i need talley bases as well and their rings do mount directly onto the CZ dovetails like the warne rings do? cheers for the advice, tm "one of the most common african animals is the common coolerbok(or coleman's coolerbok). The CZ rings will be perfectly adequate. Ugly.....but they will hold up.

Agree!!! When all is said and done, tried CZ, Warne, Talley, I like the CZ factory rings best. I replace the main mounting screws with a metric machine screw/bolt with hex head and carry the little hex wrench in my poccket ... Also, I lake levers off the discarded old style Leupold QRW and tap them out to accept that metric hex head screw/bolt, then I set the hex bolt into them with epoxy. Then I fiddle with a washer(s), or pre-grinding the under or outer surface of the lever before epoxy, to get the levers to line up correctly when tightened down. You can still use the hex wrench or only finger tighten. This is stronger than any other ring set up on a CZ 550 magnum, for use with the integral bases.

I like the cz mounts to have worked well on my .416 first and now there on my .375............................but there hard to find, here in Oz at least.

When I got my 416 the seller recomended Millet and I got them. They broke after something like 10-15 shoots and made ugly marks on my scope. Then I got Warne and they have worked fine for 200+ shoots. My smith made bases for the Sako optilock rings and they are really nice but they have no recoil stop so they bounce around when shooting with them... Thomas ...450 Rigby...

Is the VXII 1x4 long enough for the big 550 action? Mine is barely long enough for my standard length Whitworth. NRA Life Member, Band of Bubbas Charter Member, PGCA, DRSS. Shoot & hunt with vintage classics.

Yes it is, even the 2.5x compact leupold fit which is shorter again.

My Brno ZKK 602 (worthy predecessor of your C550) in .458 Express is fitted with WARNE 30mm QD mounts to secure my VX111. I am of the opinion that the recoil of the Express, which is a .458 Win Mag with a case length of 3", is excessive to that of my .416 Remington on a Ruger No 1 action. Notwithstanding doing extensive hunting with the .458 Express for the past two seasons the WARNE mounts have not falterred. Addicted to recoil
