Howdy,
I asked a while back for feedback about the M70 Safari Express and I good some good feed back on it. I'm mainly getting this for a grizz hunt that's upcomming but I would also like to use the same rifle sometime down the road for africa. The safari express is blued with wood. My friends dad will be guiding me. 10 day hunt or so and he has recommended something stainless synthetic. It rains/sleet/snow etc alot and staying in the bush doesn't make keeping blued/wood conditioned properly very easy. I have a 300 weatherby in sako stainless with a mcmillan stock and 200gr partitions would probably do just fine but I kinda wanna use a 375 H&H and take the same to africa. Long story short who makes a stainless synthetic 375 H&H that has CRF and the other "essentials" for Africa?

Thanks for any feedback.

$699 at the local Wal-Mart here, as long as Lipsey's has them in stock.

Surestrike,
Did you shorten your barrel? Teflon coat? What kind of stock? I'm going to have Mark Penrod work on mine and am looking for ideas.
Thanks,
Marc

If your wal-mart doesnt have them go to there web page and surf for the gun you want. Print out the order form and take it to the gun department and they will order it for you.

My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

FWIW I had my barrel cut back to 22" and decent express sights put on which transformed the rifle - also a lot of tuning by a good gunsmith - feed ramp polishing etc. Also you can convert to 4+1 by getting a pre-64 type follower and mag spring. Charlie.

I knew that, but an even better tip would be where I could be able to buy those parts. Winchester doesn't stock 'em any more...

KMAN,
Look at the SAKO 375 H&H in stainless. I have one and there is nothing I could do to improve it, right out of the box. It has been to Africa 3 times, taken Elephant, Buffalo and lion.
The Sako and my Sauer are my favorite rifles. CHEERS

Thanks for all the feedback guys!

Looks like it will be the Model 70 Stainless right now.

MZEE I have a Sako stainless in 300 Weatherby and it's a superb rifle imo. Does your 375 H&H have CRF? Was that something you took into consideration at all or thought aout while hunting dangerous game?

Guys sorry it's taken so long for me to get back to you. I've been out muzzle loader deer hunting the last 4 days.

Did I ever mention how much muzzle loaders PISS ME OFF SOMETIMES!!!! Any way that's another story.. Wink

My .375H&H is a stainless synthetic just like the one in the picture.

I cut the barrel to 20" and fluted it for weight purposes and at the time I was flying bush in AK and needed a gun that would fit across the rear seat of my C-180. Which is why it's so short.

I wouldn't go less than 22" if I was to do it all over.

The stock is a McMillan composite. The finish is actually a stainless blue that a friend of mine, Dave Clay, does down in Texas. He also fluted the barrel and put a real nice recessed crown on it slicked the action and trued the barrel to the receiver.

That rifle will pump out .5" groups all day long.

The rifle weighs in at just about 8.5LBS loaded and is very pleasant to shoot.

I always get asked what kind of velocity I'm getting with that short barrel.

With a max load of IMR 4320 and a Barnes X 270gr bullet I get just at 2700FPS.

Also the whole gun has been melded all the sharp corners are smoothed and reduced and the truigger is a very nice 2.5Lbs and crisp.

PICS to follow.

Kman,
I am not in the CRF camp. I own quite a few rifles, both CRF and PF. My favorites are rifles that are accurate, well made and fit me well.I believe that if you believe in your rifle it will serve you well. I only hunt DG and I use a 470NE, Ruger 458 lott, Sako 375 and a Suaer 202 Takedown with a 375 and a 416 Barrel. The only feeding problem I ever had was with my Model 70 416 Rem and as you know it's CRF. I don't own that rifle any more as I lost faith in it. I know there are guys that only believe in CRF.
If you are sold on the idea that PF is unsafe for DG then don't buy one. The CRF guys will never convince me that a quality PF rifle is unsafe. Buy what ever you trust and believe in. What ever you do don't buy a low guality rifle, skimp some where else. At best in life you get what you pay for. CHEERS

Thanks for the info. The sako I have feeds upside down and any other angle I tried it from. Now you got me thinking about a matching stainless synthetic from sako in 375 H&H to go with my 300 wby also stainless synthetic. Smiler

I just got a call from my gunsmith today and he told me my gun was ready!! As some of you know, I own a Winchester M70 stainless in 375H&H. I used that gun for a moose hunt two years ago and was lucky enough to shoot some moose. I brought the gun to my gunsmith a few days ago so he could change the factory recoil pad in preparation for my upcoming moose hunt. He suggested a Pachmayr XLT Magnum Ultra Soft. I also asked him to check out my factory sights as they were off centered. Talking to him today, I learned that the front sight was off by 1/8 of an inch!!! He re-drilled and the sights are now lined up. I can't wait to shoot it now.
