Another question about my .505 that's in the works. I bought a Pac Nor #7 barrel so I would have enough meat to turn it to the contour I want. Problem is I don't know what dimensions I need. I want a 23 or 24" barrel, with final gun weight about 12.5#. ANy sugestions for barrel dimensions? Anyone out there with .505 or .500 barrels they could measure for me? Need muzzle diameter and taper. THanks for any info you can provide

Marc, I used a free program on the Lilja website for estimating barrel weight. My Gibbs muzzle is .835 or .845 (finished rifle due any day, week, month ) and i was looking for around 11.5Lbs loaded weight. Here is link to Lilja look under products, software

Marc_Stokeld, Quote: If you are wanting to achieve that with barrel weight you probably better not contour the barrel at all. My 500 has a 26" barrel and a muzzle diameter of 0.80" the rifle weighs just at 9.3 pounds without extra weight added. As it is, I have ~ 12 oz of lead in the butt and a scope on it, which brings her up to ~ 11 pounds. Which by the way, is exactly how I want it (she is slightly butt heavy). That 0.505 hole in the middle of that barrel takes out a lot of weight. Typically, one would leave the shank alone (assuming a "standard" 1.200") for the first 3" to 4", then reduce down to 1.03 in ~ 1" or so (prefer the double radius reduction instead of a straight taper, but to each their own), and progress via a taper to a muzzle diameter of ~ 0.8"+/- 0.020" at ~ 0.010" per inch of barrel. Of course a 24" tube would leave you with a muzzle diameter, using the aforementioned formula, of ~ 0.835 +/-. ASS_CLOWN
