Any of you guys use weaver rings on something with the recoil of the 376 pro hunter? I bought a set of steel weaver bases for my Steyr Pro Hunter and bought a set of medium Burris Signature Series Zee rings to go with them...... the combination is too high! I had some low weaver rings laying around, so I tried them and they are just right......I guess they are strong enough.....but they sure are ugly! My original intent was a semi permanent mount that could be easily removed to access the iron sights......but the steel weaver bases are too high to see the rear sight with the scope removed....... edit: weaver ring won't fit the scope I'm using due to the short distance between the bell and windage/elevation turrets.......back to the drawing board! I believe that there are extended Weaver rings available that might give you a little more room. As to the strength issue, I've had Weaver rings and mounts on calibers from 22's to 50's. They're not much for pretty, but they're hell for stout. For the money, they're a great bargain. - Dan

I have to agree with Dan here, and I'd even go further (Ross Seyfried does too, by the way). Weaver rings are ugly, but hold much better than all but a few competitors. I sure hate mounting Weaver rings though! Have to put the scope in tilted to the left to allow for the rotation as you tighten the rings. I almost never get it right the first time... I have a Bausch & Lomb 2.5-10x (which is a few ounces heavier than a Leupold) in Weaver rings on a .358 Norma The scope has never moved in spite of some loads I find rather unpleasant to shoot! jpb [ 05-23-2003, 11:29: Message edited by: jpb ]
