Does anyone know if a .416 Ruger can be built on a .375 Ruger action?? Not too many rifles out there chambered for the .416. | ||

No problem at all. If you look at the cartridge drawings for the 375 and 416 Ruger in the Hornady reloading manual you will see how little difference there is in the two cartridge dimensions. SAAMI also has cartridge and chamber drawings to compare. | |||

That is the beauty of the 375+416 Ruger rounds . If you have a standard belted mag action it can be turned into a thumper with very little or no action work. I have had 3 left hand Ruger 77s in .375 converted to 416 by swapping barrels with right hand 416s. All needed rail work on the right side to feed with 3 down. Quick, Cheap, or Good: Pick Two | |||

I'm looking at the Mossberg Patriot in .375 Ruger. Cheap thumper that looks worth taking a chance on. But I would love to have a true big bore, so this is an easy conversion. What are your experiences with the .416 Ruger? Does it reach decent potential from a 22" barrel? I currently own a CZ 550 Medium Lux in 9.3x62, and would like to add a big bore to the collection. | |||

Schmitty: Actual chronographed velocity from a 20" 416 Ruger Alaskan using the maximum powder charge of 2000-MR as shown in the Hornady manual, Hornady brass, FED 215 primer and Swift 400 grain A Frame was 2367 fps. Same components with R15 was 2312 fps. Hornady factory 400 grain RN was 2340 fps. | |||

Yes, that Patriot looks like worth a chance. It you get a 375Ruger, by all means try it out. If it shoots, keep it, and look for a 416Ruger Hawkeye. For what you would pay for the new barrel and to have the chamber cut you could probably just buy a 416 Ruger Hawkeye African. I have both the 375 and the 416 and no complaints with either rifle. I agree with Dave I would not go to the trouble of converting a patriot to 416 ruger. For the money you could get a Ruger . I spoke to a customer service manager at Mossberg and he told me the 375 Patriot is selling better than expected maybe with a little encouragement they will come out with a 416 version | |||
