After a long wait my two Mausers have arrived. I have posted pictures & a request for help & info in Gun Collecting, but am just placing this link to it because here is where many of the knowledgable folk hang out:

Those are two of the very finest Oberndorf sporters I have ever seen. Congratulations. Upper 4 figures no problem.

Well...appeares nobody want to make an appraisel...I`LL give a shot!

These two mausers of yours are in prestine condition, and with the solidwall they are also very very rare which will give them a maxprize for that given calibers they are representing.
IF you were to have an appraisel for insurancepurpose, you would have to say to your self:" How much would I estimate to spend in order to find two similar guns..in case they got stolen/burned etc". Then you could might insure them for $12k each.
I would also once awhile try to follow auctions around the world now and then, to see if if you need to raise the appraisel.

Those square bridges will make it easy to drill and tap for a set of Weaver bases.

Just kidding -- put down the tar and feathers, fla3006! Smiler

John, I'm sure it's been done. I know a local "gunsmith" who took a pristine Type A 30-06 with ribbed barrel, parted it out for the action which he used to build a "bubba" custom. In the process of taking the barrel off, he bent the action, did a half-ass job of straightening it, went ahead and used it. I tried to persude him to use a 1935 Chilean for his project and leave the Type A alone (sell to me) but he would hear none of it.

Great rifles

They are both gems for a Mauser collector.
They are worth allot, but selling them might be a long project.
The model A is especially nice IMO and would go for about 6,000 euro. The dollar is very low now and selling on the American market would NOT be ideal.
The condition is what means the most for your model A. It would be better if it where pre IWW, however the solid wall and the double square bridge makes up for that. Wink
The model B is also very nice but not worh the same, I would say 3,000 euro maybe more, but there are "many" model b's around and the calibre is classic one but NOT an exotic one.

PS DO NOT SELL these rifles.
Use them.

Cheers,

André

Guys,
thanks for all the compliments and especially the value guidence.
I'm meeting my broker this weekend and now I've a better idea on what to insure for. Replacement is hard to contemplate!

Unfortunately, here in SA it is a more than real risk that the guns get stolen so one cannot take these things lightly. Sporting rifles are not a PRIME target, but our thieves don't always know the difference??? CRYBABY

I just love these two guns, and I must admit I have taken them out and sat in their company while sipping a good red wine. I cannot ask for better company....

Can't wait to take them on a hunt... dancing
