I'm considering having a couple of gun slips made out of my elephant hide, and was wondering what you guys think is the best lining to use inside a gun slip. Leather, fabric of some sort, something else?

These slips should obviously be made to last a very long time, both inside and out.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

When geting some mounts done in Bullawayo a few years back, I asked to have a Kudu back skin turned into a Rifle bag, years later when the items arrived my Kudu rifle slip turned into a Buffalo leather shotgun slip, this wasn't a problem as i didn't mind it and the price was good, now i'm waiting on some buff leather courteney's, rifle and double rifle slips.
hope to see them one day.
The ones I have seen have had suede Leather inside.
The products are of good quality but don't be upset if they are a bit different from what you asked and how long it takes."This is AFRICA".

Erik,

I had 2 gun slips made from my first elephant. They have a black leather liner, kind of like suede.

If yours are being made in Zim, I suggest specific instructions to the maker as to the length and height so that the slip will accomodate your barrel length and scope size. My ele hide slips are fine for a normal sized scope, up to a 2-7x Leupold, but for even a 3-9x scope the slips are tight.

I gave one of the elephant hide gun slips to the guy who made the rifle that I shot my first elephant with.

Man, that is a great thought for things to do with an elephant hide. Is there any other ideas like this? How much did these slips run?

The gun sips are around US$150 but can be different from place to place, also cheeper if you supply your own leather, usually made of Buffalo, Hippo or Ele.
Hunting boots,Ammo pouches and ammo belts are also an option.
