That is very interesting. The only ones I know that have been recovered were quartering body shots at ranges greater than 150 yards. Of course those came from a 416 Rigby, perhaps that is the difference.

There seems to be a significant difference in bullet performance, very significant. Fist sized holes too, I would really appreciate it if you would post these pictures for us all to see.

FishCreek,

Unlike most here on the big bore forum who shoot only milk jugs with their big bores, I hunt with mine. I have shot elk with the 350 Speer, 300 Barnes, and witnessed the 350 Barnes in action. Of course if neck shots over expand a Speer there is MAJOR inconsistency in the Speer product. I shoot the 350 gr Speer at 2800+ fps, NO 416 Remington could ever do that. I have not seen over-expansion or poor penetration. I am very curious to see close-ups of these over expanded Speer bullets.

My son shot two elk and one deer with the 350 Speer from a 416 Rem. Our conclusion was they are very soft, too soft for elk other than maybe rib shots, and at that the open fist-size holes. Recovered one from 40 yd neck shot on a 4x4 bull--have it somewhere--where expansion was excessive plus penetration poor. He standardized on the 350 Barnes now. If you are interested on the recovered 350 info, advise by PM and I will see if I can find it and let you know weight retention and expanded diameter. Best wishes.
