Talley Base Installation - Need Some Help Login/Join

I am installing Talley QD bases and rings on a pre-64 M70 375 H&H RH. It is the .435" hole pattern. There is no diagram included to show how the bases should be oriented.

Which way do I install the bases? There are numbers on the bases. Do I orient the numbers so I can read them from the bolt side of the rifle, or so the numbers are upside down from the bolt side of the rifle?

If the numbers on the bases don't help tell how to orient the bases, then how can I figure out which way the bases should be?

Thanks.

The elevated part of the base is in front such that the grooves are stopped by the end of the base. I may be able to get you a picture.

The rear base is oriented so that the leading edge is even with the cut on the bridge. The front base was cut with the ability to orient any way so that it could accommodate varying lengths of scopes. What ever fits-fits. The rear bridge mount can be set up where it overlaps the cut. I don't like it that way as it may interfere with loading a round and isn't necessary to orient that way.

Great pics, but the bases look different from the ones I have. I wonder if they modified the design. I will try to post pics of my bases now.

I have another rifle with Mauser bases but it is getting late with soccer, piano lessons, etc. in the morning. I can pull it out tomorrow for pics if needed.

As far as I can tell, yes, but I am way behind on sleep.

They are fine that way. If you look you will see that each base can be installed two ways. Each way will give you a different spacing distance for rings. That is so you can install scopes with varying lengths on a rifle.

Thanks lb404.

It all seems like it lined up fine when I mounted the scope.

Your welcome. I have about 125 sets of Talley bases and about 20 free rings. I go through a lot of Talley stuff. Good things those Talley rings and bases. Occasionally I have to have custom bases made for a specific rifle if either the front or rear bridge is wrond. Then I have Mark Stratton make bases for me. He is great to work with and does a wonderful job.
